Making watercolor paper?

It just annoys my frugal heart to pay $1/sheet for watercolor paper!

Has anyone made a reasonable substitute or found a cheap source?

You must be buying the cheap stuff. The stuff I like (Arches 140 lb., the
big sheets) run nearly $3/sheet when bought singly. Mail order averages
$2/sheet for them presently in a 3 sheet pack. (from Daniel Smith.)

Cheapest way I know of to buy it is in quantity.. get together with several
friends and buy the 25 or 50 sheet packs, splitting the price. It's cheaper
per sheet when you buy it that way.
