LAREDO, Texas, July 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Vilore Foods Co. Inc.,
Laredo, Texas, has announced that it is voluntarily recalling
certain codes of Jumex brand fruit nectars and juice in 12 ounce
cans imported from Empacadora de Frutas y Jugos, S.A., Mexico City,
Mexico.
The products are being recalled because they may contain high
levels of lead, which could result in permanent, severe injury if
consumed, particularly on a regular basis.
The products recalled are Jumex brand Apple Nectar, Apricot
Nectar, Guava Nectar, Mango Nectar, Papaya-Pineapple Nectar, Peach
Nectar, Pear Nectar, Plum Nectar, Pineapple Juice and Tamarind
Nectar. The products were imported by Vilore Foods Co. and
distributed in the states of California, Illinois, Indiana and
Texas.
The recalled products were manufactured in lead soldered cans
prior to March 25, when the manufacturer began using electric
weld-seam cans which contain no lead. The recalled products can
be identified by the last four numerical digits of the code which
is located on the bottom of the can. "H/12084/BR" is an example of
the code, and cans bearing the number "2084" and lower in the last
four numerical digits are being recalled.
The cans with lead solder have side seams 3/4 of an inch wide
while the electric weld cans have side seams 1/4 inch wide.
Consumers are urged to carefully examine all cans of Jumex brand
fruit nectars and juice and return cans with the last four
numerical digits of "2084" and lower to the place of purchase for
a refund.
