************************ JOE LOVE **************************
Joe Love was targeted for death and set up by police and others
involved in a male and female prostitution-drug ring that
encompasses high level Indiana officials, because he knew too
much and was trying to tell it on the record in court.
Joe Love, 37, was a cab driver when he was killed on June 14,
1995. As a teenager, he attended Southport High School and
played in local bands with friends from Franklin and Perry High
Schools. Joe was in the Boy Scouts honor guard for the Indy 500
Races. He once saved a store clerk during a robbery by cold-
cocking the armed robber during the attempt. Joe was a published
song writer. One of his songs, called "Stop the Madness," was the
theme song used by Nancy Reagan in her "just say no" campaign.
He was well known and loved by many. One friend said he "was
the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back and a ride
home." His mom and dad, Johnie and Lester Love, still live in the
home where Joe grew up, on the outskirts of Indianapolis. His only
brother, Jeff, lives in Pensacola, Florida.
At some point in time, Joe crossed sideways with the Laborers
Union and sued one of the attorneys that represents the union.
Interestingly enough, while the suit was pending, he went to the
local union hall, where -- similar to what happened to another man
just last week -- the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) were
called. IPD obliged by taking Joe to Wishard Hospital as a
"nutcase."
If you don't know it, saying a person is a "nutcase" and needs
immediate "detention" is a scam used by police when they can't
find a charge to hold you on (you could make bond and get out if
you were charged with a crime. This is worse). If they take you to
Wishard hospital as a "nutcase," it doesn't matter how sane you
are, you will be held at Wishard and labeled "psychotic." During the
time you are at Wishard, you will be chained to a bed and strapped
down. If you have to use the bathroom, they'll bring you a condom
or tell you to wet yourself. You will not be given so much as a drink
of water.
Thought that stuff went out with the dark ages? No, sorry, it's alive
and well at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. You should
see the medical records from one man's admission to the hospital
this way just two weeks ago. The Wishard Doctor's notes say only
that he was calm, rational, well-oriented, and his conversational
abilities were perfectly fine. In the "diagnosis," he wrote
"psychotic." Seriously. The same thing happened to Joe Love.
How many others?
So you stay in this torture chamber for around 10 hours, chained to
a bed, labeled "psychotic." Once Wishard gets around to finding a
place to send you, you will be transferred to a private hospital that
has a contract with the State (Aha! You knew the money motivator
would figure in here somewhere, didn't you?). If it is Community
North, you stand a good chance of getting a doctor who's
egomania rivals Hitler, literally.
At the very least, you will be told that if you don't sign papers
saying that you "voluntarily" committed yourself to be an inpatient
at the government-contracted hospital, you will be held until the
doctor gets around to filling out papers for a "hearing" in front of a
judge to decide if you can be released from the hospital or not. If
you refuse to sign these papers ("Vee haf vays of mekking you
ZINE!"), you are categorized as "refuses to admit his illness" and
"refuses to submit to authority," and "denies he needs treatment,"
which will be offered as "proof" that you are mentally ill.
You will also spend at least another three days longer in the mental
ward, waiting for a court hearing, usually longer. You will be
repeatedly threatened in ominous tones, "if you don't sign, it could
be a l-o-n-g time before you are released." Your job may fire you in
the meantime, too.
If you had been charged with a crime, you would have gotten out in
4-6 hours with bond, or the law requires that you be taken before a
judge within 48 hours if you didn't make bond. Labeled a "nutcase"
by a vindictive police officer, you get at least a week as a "mental
patient," a permanent label as a "nutcase," a public record in a
court (in order to get released) that says you were "involuntarily
committed" that sticks with you for the rest of your life and a lot of
medical bills. Pretty effective spite, wouldn't you say? Ask
Woodson Ritchie -- A.M. General, Detective Rightmeyer and IPD
Officer Dale True just did it to him two weeks ago for hanging a
notice of a Patriot meeting on a public bulletin board at A.M.
General -- where anyone else can post anything whatsoever. A.M.
General is a government contractor for the Humvee and is a UAW
union shop -- the UAW sponsored the Clinton Healthcare Buses,
you may recall. Some criminals holding positions in government
don't like patriots these days. Neither, apparently, does A.M.
General.
So, Joe Love sued the lawyer for the Union, showed up at the
union hall one day, got carted off as a "nutcase," and to get him out
of the hell-hole at Wishard, his dad promised to enroll him in
outpatient treatment, which Joe didn't want or need, but it got him
out of Wishard. Interestingly enough, though, in his case against
the union lawyer, a psychiatrist was brought in to testify that Joe
was "delusional" -- the psychiatrist just happened to be the brother
of the lawyer he was suing. The judge dismissed Joe's case. No
incest there, eh? The courts are "independent," right? In that
case, Joe had started naming names. Some high placed people
didn't like it. The wheels turned and Joe was run over.
So, Joe became a taxi driver. He learned more about scum in
Indianapolis than any of us would care to know. He kept detailed
records of what he learned. He found out about a male and female
prostitution ring, and about drug running and how the money from
this ring has bought and paid for the politicians and judges and
cops.
One night, he picked up a guy at a local hotel. Police arrived and
pretended to arrest the guy he picked up. They said they were
state police. Curiously, the State Police (in fact, no police) have any
record of an arrest that night, except for Joe.
Joe was arrested. The arresting officer (who is listed as IPD, but
who happens to also have a brother who is a Marion County
Deputy and another brother who is on the State Police), said he
had a joint, that Joe threw the joint on the ground (would anybody
be so
stupid that if they had a joint, they wouldn't have just eaten it? But
no, the cops can make up any damned thing. Remember that.)
Think that's a weak story to arrest somebody on? It gets better.
The cop says Joe had a joint and that the cop put the joint on the
hood of a car and the cop says Joe ate the joint off the hood of the
car. (Are you believing this?) So they charged Joe with theft of
State Property (the joint -- they admit it wasn't Joe's joint!), a D
FELONY, and Obstruction of Justice. Yes, folks, you got that right.
Joe Love was charged with a D FELONY for supposedly eating a
joint that he supposedly was too stupid to eat before the cop
supposedly found it on the ground and before the cop we are
supposed to believe was s-o-o-o-o-o stupid he put the joint on the
hood of the car for Joe to supposedly eat it right there. Yessirree --
that's the *BIG TIME CRIME* Joe Love was charged with. Read it
again. A D FELONY THEFT (of government property, mind you) for
supposedly eating a joint.
Joe knew it was a set up and that he was a marked man. He was
terrified of going to jail, where he said the police would kill him. His
father bailed him out on a cash bond within two hours.
Joe gets a public defender. Joe's public defender told the parents
it was a bogus case and the state had no evidence. But did he get
the case dismissed? No, what does he do? He pleads Joe
"incompetent to stand trial."
No attorney with any sense will ever do this, because it results in
turning a client over to the hands of the government to be
"examined." This is a situation to be avoided at all costs, except
as an absolute last-ditch effort in a very serious case. A person
who gets committed as a mental case can be put away indefinitely
(until they are deemed "safe"). Even the worst sentence in a
serious criminal case will give the person a specific release date at
some definite time in the future. Not so, if the person is found to be
"mental" and sent to the loony bin, perhaps forever.
This wasn't a serious case. This wasn't a case at all. Yet, Joe's
Court-appointed attorney raised the issue that Joe Love "was
incompetent to stand trial." He also did this without Joe's
permission.
Joe, you see, was "delusional" because he had told his attorney
about the drug and prostitution ring involving all these high level
Indiana officials. He also mentioned a song he had written and
copyrighted that Nancy Reagan had used, and somewhere in his
conversations, he had talked about bags of birdseed.
Birdseed? Curiously enough, a state policeman who told Joe he
was "going to kill him" was involved in a raid on his house a few
years ago, where the police stole all of Joe's guns and his life
savings from his home safe -- in the infamous "hydroponic sting"
case. If you don't remember it, that was the case set up by the
State Police where the police raided 114 people's homes -- and
only had 22 warrants and of those, 6 were defective.
They terrorized people into letting them "search" their homes by
telling them that if they didn't let them search, they'd "come back
with a warrant and trash your house." The police had set up a
bogus hydroponics store -- advertised in NUVO. (By the way, Nuvo
is once again helping to spy on people, via their employee and FBI
snitch, Richard Bottoms, who does all the computer entry -- a/k/a
name gathering -- at NUVO).
Anyone who came into the hydroponics store was followed home
by Indiana State police, their tag number copied down. Their
electric and phone bills were scrutinized, they had their garbage
searched, their house filmed with infrared, and --
really, we're not making this up -- the police also said that paying
CASH for a purchase in this garden feed and fertilizer store
indicated a criminal mindset and a fear of being tracked --
according to documents filed with the court! Fortunately, most of
these cases were thrown out after the truth came out.
Joe Love had two 50 pound bags of bird seeds, which the State
Police gleefully seized, in the "sting" claiming they were a
"controlled substance," along with all his guns and money. Joe had
bought sterilized marijuana seeds -- legal birdseed -- because this
State Policeman had threatened to raid him. The cop made good
on his threat. Joe wasn't convicted of anything, since it isn't illegal
to have birdseed, but the cops never did return his guns or money.
It was licensed theft, courtesy of the mob running Indiana.
Joe Love was more than a little suspicious of the good intentions of
the supposed protectors of the citizenry, with good reason. But his
public defender said all these things Joe spoke of were "delusions,"
never bothering to learn that Joe was speaking the truth.
So, in a kangaroo court, with a kangaroo public defender, a
kangaroo judge, Joe Love appeared to find out whether he was
"competent" to stand trial. This was his sixth court appearance.
Nothing much had happened the first five times, other than Joe had
to take off from work, find a parking place, appear in Court, and
stand around for a half hour and leave.
On June 14, 1995, Joe Love went to court, knowing he would
never come back alive. He waved goodbye to a parking lot
attendant who knew him well -- something he had never done
before. He hid a book full of information on government officials in
a place someone knew to look if he were killed. He left his beeper
in the car, which he never did, so it would be found. He called his
mother and father the night before and told them not to come to
court the next day.
Into the mouth of the beast, Joe Love walked, to hear what
strangers had to say about his mental competency. A courtroom
that meted neither impartiality, nor justice, a court obedient to its
masters. Municipal court judges in Marion County are appointed,
not elected, so the judges are nothing but political hacks who bow
and scrape on command. On the record, Joe said during the
hearing, "If you're going to kill me, just go on and do it now." The
judge replied, "All right."
Charles A. Wiles, the judge in Joe's case, didn't even raise up off
his fat rear end, later, as Joe was being kicked and pummeled on
the floor below him.
Was Joe crazy? His public defender said so -- that must make it
true. Two doctors found by the public defender were prepared to
say so, as well.
But here, the story is different, depending on who is telling it. The
cops say the judge ordered Joe Love taken into custody for
contempt of court for interrupting the Judge -- trying to tell what he
knew about Mayor Goldsmith and Scott Newman and Senator
Richard Lugar. The cops say that when the judge ordered Joe into
custody, two deputies got behind him and that "Joe became
agitated."
The police admit that they jumped on him, maced him and put him
in handcuffs.
The judge told the family he had told Joe he was free to go and
that Joe "suddenly collapsed on the way out of court." This was to
support the later claims that "Joe just had a heart attack and died,
right there."
The judge said in a different statement, though, that the deputies
had "subdued him" before he was taken out of the courtroom and
that he was "surprised to learn Joe was dead." The deputies
"subdued" a free man?
His Public Pretender, er, defender, made public statements on TV
that the "police did nothing wrong." Later, he said that Joe was not
fighting at all, but that officers sat on Joe, maced him, and that he
saw IPD Officer Ken Greer kick Joe while he was on the floor.
Witnesses in the Courtroom said that what actually happened was
that from the moment Joe arrived in court, a cop stood behind him,
manning a can of mace, with an itchy trigger finger. They say the
Judge told Joe he was going to put him in jail until a bed could be
found for him in a hospital. (Is that how it's done? If a kangaroo
court finds a person is "mentally incompetent" he's thrown into a
hole in the jail? Didn't that go out in the middle ages, along with
the rack and debtor's prisons?)
But, the "official transcript" provided by the Judge's assistant
handily omits this part.
Witnesses in the courtroom said the cop with the mace and five
others swarmed Joe and took him down to the floor, sat on him,
kicked him, and maced him, then drug him out of sight, as at least
another dozen officers ran in to "assist."
In over thirty witnesses interviewed, not one witness who is not one
of the police suspects, has said Joe was fighting or resisting at all.
Even the Sheriff's department investigator, Det. Sergeant Mike
Smith, said at an early press conference, that Joe didn't hit
anybody, Joe didn't fight anybody.
Witnesses in the hallway said Joe was cooperating and asking for
water. Another said he complained of being hurt, but was not
fighting police. Another said the police were elbowing him in the
elevator. Another said the police had him "jacked up in the back,
pushing him." A cop said he "escorted" him by the shirt and belt.
His cut belt and bloodied shirt were given to his family.
Det. Sergeant Mike Smith said Joe was "resisting with his weight,"
contradicted within an hour by Deputy Chief Billy Romeril, who said
he was "Resisting very, very strongly."
Downstairs, many witnesses said Joe never fought, that he was
maced and his eyes were closed. He was blinded and docile. He
was thrown into the floor of a cell that is aptly called "the hole"
inside the jail but on the news, it was called "the quiet room," by
Det.Sgt. Mike Smith, self-appointed Public Relations man for killers.
"The hole" is a 6' by 5' cell with a slimy dirty, caked-filthy concrete
floor, with a hole in the floor in one corner for a toilet. There are
sheets of padding, covered in vinyl, on the wall. A strip is torn
away on one wall and down the center of the door. It has no
redeeming features. It is not safe, nor secure, nor fit for a dog,
much less a human being.
It has no lights. The 4" x 8" window in the door that leads out to a
dingey hallway, is covered over with cardboard. With the door
closed, a person would be inside a pitch black, reeking, filthy hole.
If a person were not insane when he was thrown in there, he could
quickly become insane. It is a place of nightmares, for nightmares.
Whatever happened to Joe Love happened after he got on an
elevator, supposedly to go to the city county lock up, in the hands
of Deputy Sheriffs and Indianapolis Police. Wherever it happened,
he was beaten from head to toe, black and blue, up the backs of
his legs, his sides, his back, his arm pits, and his groin. The insides
of his upper thighs were a solid mass of ugly blue and purple welts,
the size of dinner plates. His inner arms were a mass of welts and
bruises. His back was a kaleidoscope of huge bruises. And most
undeniably, Joe Love was dead.
No one, not even the Marion County Coroner, bothered to notice
his bruises. Afterall, he was "just an inmate." But, in fact, he was
never legally an inmate. No one had legally ordered him into
custody, according to the "official" transcript.
When Jeff was told of his brother's death, he immediately flew
home to be with his parents. Jeff is a seasoned investigator. He
was appalled to learn from Det. Sgt. Mike Smith that Smith had
concluded the "investigation" into Joe's death within 48 hours and
that there would be no further investigation. Smith's "investigation"
had consisted solely of interviewing one police officer who had
written up the official report. Jeff began an unrelenting and
tenacious investigation into his brother's death, immediatley finding
witness after witness who contradicted the police's official story.
The notebook Joe was carrying in court as he made notes,
mysteriously dissappeared, along with his keys. His home, which
was heavily alarmed and protected by a padlocked gate, was
entered the next day. The padlock was unlocked and re-locked.
The only people who had the key were the police. The police told
the family they hadn't found any keys, though. A few days later,
the keys were "found" on the shift captain's desk. Joe Love's name
was engraved on the keys, but the desk sergeant claimed they had
no clue to whom the keys belonged.
In quickly contrived press releases, the Sheriff's department said
Joe had "no signs of being beaten," (only if one didn't look), that he
had "only a small bruise on his forehead," and he was "never struck
by anyone." The police also released a few still shots from a jail
surveillance camera -- made intentionally blurry by filming them as
the were played on a TV monitor as a camera filmed them. The
police claimed these pictures proved Joe arrived in "the hole"
perfectly okay. These still pictures were shown in rapid succession
on Channel 8, WISH, in Indianapolis, giving the appearance of
motion, as a voice said Joe was being taken into a cell.
On examination, however, of the seven still pictures, only one
shows Joe in it at all. It is a picture of him, buck naked except for a
torn shirt across the back of his neck and a harness that was used
to haul his dead body from the cell. Joe is dead in the picture.
To make Joe appear to be some sort of desperado, the police
released a mug shot of him to the news media and falsely claimed
Joe had been in court that day for "resisting arrest." The media
cooperated dutifully, yammering on and on about how Joe
"weighed 300 pounds" and "had a heart attack" after "tearing up
the courtroom" in a "scuffle with police."
An independent autopsy performed the day the Marion County
Coroner released the body, by the Chief Medical Examiner of
Kentucky, Dr. George R. Nichols, II, says Joe was choked to death
by an arm choke hold and beaten from head to toe. The list of welts and
bruises goes on for four pages.
Once that news came out, the Marion County Coroner's office
suddenly admitted, "Well, he had some bruises but they were
insignificant." They also gave a shot at trying to discredit the Chief
Medical Examiner from Kentucky -- a man whom, just the day
before, they had publicly praised. The Marion County Coroner's
office claimed he performed the autopsy "without the lungs, spleen, trachea,
or heart."
In so doing, the Marion County Corner's office was admitting they
had not restored these parts to the body or, they were simply lying
in a desperate attempt to discredit the Chief Medical Examiner from
Kentucky.
None of those parts were needed by Marion County for further
examination. If the Marion County Coroner really kept those parts
when the body was released, it must have been for some other
reason, perhaps in hopes of defeating a second autopsy. The
Chief Medical Examiner for Kentucky wasn't in the least concerned
with these claims, because his autopsy, whether with or without
those parts, showed conclusively that Joe Love was murdered.
There was no room for doubt.
The kicker? Three attorneys for Marion County and Indianapolis
showed up at a hearing to protest a court order the family's
attorney, Linda Thompson, had obtained, ordering the County and
City not to destroy or tamper with evidence! The evidence included
vials of blood withdrawn from Joe, held in the Police Property room.
The police never admitted they had these vials of blood in their
property room.
The Medical Examiner claims to be waiting on "toxicology tests" before
releasing an "official cause of death," (after appearing on the media time
and again to claim Joe "had a heart attack," and after releasing an initial
report claiming he "had a heart attack.") Now, their answer is "next week"
they'll release "the official cause of death."
In the meantime, the Marion County Medical Examiner has been "leaking" two
stories, hinting that Joe may have "choked on his own vomit" (which is
completely disproven by the hemorrages and brusing on his neck) and another
a story about how he had sent Joe's blood off to a lab "he couldn't
remember," that was going to test for some "new drug" Joe was supposed
prescribed by one of the psychiatrists. (Joe was not taking any drug.)
Like claiming that a rape victim "brought it on herself," the coroner's
office is clearly hoping to
claim that Joe "brought it on himself," by taking some sort of mystery
prescription drug. When all the witnesses have said Joe was not fighting,
when the Medical Examiner from Kentucky could tell immediately that Joe had
been choked to death, whether Joe took some "mystery drug" or not, is
irrelevant and an obviously lame reason to hold up the cause of death. Yes,
maybe next week we'll get the truth. Maybe next week we'll see world peace,
too, but the chances of either are about equal.
Two days after the independent medical examiner's results were announced in
the media, the Indianapolis newspapers and television suddenly began crowing
about how "wonderful" Scott Newman, the Marion County Prosecutor, and the
Sheriff were, because they had "acted quickly to investigate" Joe Love's
death by "calling for a grand jury investigation."
Wonderful? The Sheriff was out of town all week, himself. Scott Newman has
never once asked to see any of the work or evidence that proves Joe Love was
murdered. He doesn't have it and won't have it because most of it was
buried with Joe Love, other than what the family and the family's attorney
gathered themselves. There is plenty of evidence. But the Prosecutor has
never spoken to the family nor their attorney and refuses to do so.
Just as abruptly, the stories about Joe Love's murder stopped. It must be
just a coincidence that became the vogue to run stories trashing the Love's
attorney and the Chief Medical Examiner from Kentucky, both of whom had
demanded a public coroner's inquiry into Joe Love's death, while falsely
attributing the demand for an independent grand jury to the local Marion
County prosecutor, Scott Newman;
It is Scott Newman's office that has publicly and officially refused to
accept or file any charges made against any police.
It is the same Scott Newman, who has admitted on the record that he flunked
Constitutional law and that "criminal defendants" have no rights.
It is the same Scott Newman who signed the papers that charged Joe Love with
an obviously bogus "crime," the charge that brought Joe to court the day he
was killed;
It will be the same Scott Newman who will impanel the Grand Jury;
It will be Scott Newman who leads the grand jury around by the nose;
It will be Scott Newman who determines what "evidence" the grand jury will
have presented to it;
-- Unless you help get justice for Joe Love. The family wants these
killers put in prison for life. Help us make it happen. Don't let the
foxes investigate the foxes.
We need an independent prosecutor, in an independent county, to impanel a
special grand jury to investigate Joe Love's murder and return murder
indictments. Who can you call? Call the State Attorney General's office.
Call the Mayor. Call the media. Several times. Don't stop. Sign the
petition for an independent prosecutor, too.
Ask Michael Taylor. The police said this young boy, handcuffed with his
hands behind his back in the back seat of a police car, pulled a gun from
his tennis shoe and "committed suicide." They got away with his murder four
years ago.
It could be you or someone in your family next time, and there will be a
next time, and another and another, until these murderers are put behind bars.
As Joe said, in the words to his copyrighted song (that really was
used by Nancy Reagan), "Stop the madness."
