)From Doret Kollerer, Senior Editor, North Coast Xpress:

This just came from Khalfani X. Khaldun. Please publish:

Due to the deplorable conditions in the supermax in Westville, Indiana,
some 8-11 prisoners launched a hunger strike, and about 40 others, in a
show of solidarity, have refused all movement, talking, and many
refused showers. This is a combination of New Afrikan prisoners and
North Amerikans as well. I brought us together under the banner
challenging one foe. However, several comrades helped this reach
fruition. We have been going since 3/15/99 and expect to go at least 20
days. These are our rally points:

1. The removal of the chairman who sits on the C.A.B., Vanessa Hayes,
who is passing off capricious sanctions to us.

2. The programs for G.E.D. acceptance be completely revamped and
replaced by one overtly conducive for all prisoners at MCF.

3. All staff be trained in state/fed laws that detail the violation of
opening prisoners legal mail outside their presence so that all mail
will cease being opened by staff.

4. The S.T.G Security Threat Group policy be revised to prohibit state
officers from so easily confiscating our progressive materials,
pictures, and books.

5. That staff be immediately trained coming through the door to
respect prisoners rights and display professional courtesy as well.

Please help us. Demand to know the condition of Khalfani X. Khaldun
(Leonard McQuay, 874304) and the Hunger Strike protesters. Send copies
of letters or faxes to me, Bro. Khalfani X. Kaldun, 874304, Maximum
Control Facility, P.O. Box 557, Westville, IN 46391-0557.
