Some suggestions for betterment of primary school -

1. First & foremost, the curriculum of all classes should be clearly
specified either at beginning of year / uploaded on the website.
Currently parents have no idea what is the curriculum that is being
followed in each of the subjects be it English, Hindi, Maths or EVS.
Also wish to know whether the text books are in line with CBSE / NCERT
guidelines. Textbooks prescribed by NCERT are different from the one
being used by teachers i.e. from Oxford University Press. It's
difficult for parents to assess the difference unless clearly spelt
out by the teachers.

2. Parent - Teacher interaction should be at least monthly, if not
more frequently. This helps parents keep in touch and provides know-
how on what's being undertaken at school - either through teaching or
activities. Most kids at primary level normally tend not to share what
happens in school on a daily basis. Many a time we also come to know
that the teachers follow a certain system of teaching and correcting
works done by students in class as well as home. Many a time we have
also seen that class / home works have not been checked by teachers
for various reasons, which is known only meeting the teacher in
person. Frequent interactions with teachers would help in assessing
their performance and growth intellectually and/or otherwise. Any
behavioral changes on the kids personality can also be monitored and
effective changes made accordingly wherever required. Such
interactions could be spread out by different classes / sections over
the 4/5 Saturdays of every month or as scheduled by the School
management.

3. In addition to the P-T interaction, it is strongly suggested that a
Counselling department be setup in the school where 3rd Party
counselors along with Teachers work on personality and behavioral
traits of children. Its is suggested that be initiated at the primary
level itself and could be carried on the senior levels too. I
understand that there does exist a period for counselling, but
unfortunately, based on feedback from my kids, this is more of a group
activity where the issues get lost and the session becomes chaotic.
Hence the need of a separate department where individual concerns,
problems, issues, et al could be handled on a one-on-one basis. My
kids have been complaining of some violent behavior by some kids in
their respective sections and we fear that such physical behavior may
result in some grievous / fatal injury, which may not be repairable.
We personally feel that the teacher alone cannot handle the situation.
In such a scenario, the counselling department along with the teacher/
s can hold session/s with the individual kid/s and his/her parents.

4. A number of schools in Delhi and around the country have been
adopting the Model United Nations, which is an academic simulation of
the UN aiming to educate kids about current events, topics in
international relations, diplomacy and the UN agenda. I suggest that a
similar model be constructed for primary students, more at a local /
national level, aiming to educate them on several civic issues,
hygiene issues, science activities, issues for safety concerns, etc.
which would help them to be and grow aware of the environment around
them. Kids are naturally more conscious, knowledgeable, informed and
aware of several issues today given their exposure to TV and the web.
I guess such a Model would help them grow to be more respectable
citizens. Since no school (to my knowledge) has any such program, MIS
could actually develop an indigenous model.

5. Physical Education is one the key ingredients in the growth pattern
of kids at primary levels - helps teaching them sportsmanship, spirit,
teamwork, leadership, hard-work, sincerity and a host of other traits.
It is often observed that kids are left to play odd games in the back
field as a "Free Games" period, which results in them running around
aimlessly or idling away in a corner. The gymnastics program is also
restricted to boys only and girls are left with dance only. It is
strongly felt and suggested that a better sports programme with a
wider range be initiated in the school for all kids providing them
with a host of physical activities and games.

6. This forum should also be used to request more parent-involvement
in a more active and participative manner in the schools running,
operations, etc. as it would ease a lot of pressure on the teachers
and the school administration on the whole. We, as parents, would be
more than obliged to contribute more actively. May the school
management consider this suggestion / request and may more parents
suggest their inclination for participation.

7. The web platform developed for MIS should actually be used /
developed further to facilitate interactions between the school, the
teachers and the parents. All the above suggestions should be included
as part of a discussion board / feedback page, which can be sorted by
Class and by topic. This could avoid a general discussion on all
issues at one particular site, such as what is happening now. This is
being suggested without any intention of taking away the efforts of
Mr. Sujit Banerjee or Mr. SHailesh Tiwari, whose initiative is
commendable. Alternatively, we may create 2 official closed group
Facebook pages - one maintained by/for the School and the other by the
school and for the parent teacher interactions.

Lastly, while we may all have some suggestions, we may also have some
grievances with the school administration and/or the teachers, some of
which may be severe (such as the one in discussion). It would be
sincerely appreciated if we (us as well as the school) do not react on
any aggressive comments of certain people and rather focus on negating
the issues in hand. Hoping that the above suggestions / comments, most
of which do not call for any additional costs, are taken in a right
spirit and manner by all in the hope of better future for our kids.
