Which of the following definitions is used when calculating CSIBTEST in mirt?

  • The definition in the upper part of Equation (1) on p.654 of Li & Stout (1996), or

  • The definition in Equation (5) on p.378 of Chalmers (2018), or Equation (4) on p.4 of Chalmers and Zheng (2023)?

The direction of the reference and focal groups differs between the above definitions, so I would like to confirm which one is used.
I suspect it is the latter, but could you please verify?

I believe it is the latter as well, though in all honesty it makes no difference. Only the magnitude of the resulting $\beta$ matters as the goal of CSIBTEST is to detect and quantify non-uniform DIF effects. In the future release I may just report this value as an absolute. HTH.
