Plot

The film revolves around Raghuvaran (Dhanush), a civil engineering graduate who is unemployed for four years. He lives with his father (Samuthirakani), mother (Saranya Ponvannan) and younger brother Karthik (Hrishikesh), who works in an IT company. Raghuvaran is constantly humiliated by his father and Karthik for being jobless, while his mother supports him. He also faces rejection from many companies due to his gap in education.

Raghuvaran falls in love with his neighbour Shalini (Amala Paul), who is a doctor. She initially dislikes him for being lazy, but gradually warms up to him after seeing his good nature. Raghuvaran also gets involved in a rivalry with Arun Subramaniam (Amitash Pradhan), a wealthy and arrogant civil engineer who runs a big construction company.

One day, Raghuvaran gets a job offer from a small-scale construction company called Anitha Constructions, owned by Anitha (Surabhi). He accepts the offer and joins the company as a site engineer. He leads a team of workers who are also VIPs (velai illa pattatharis), meaning unemployed graduates. Raghuvaran proves his skills and dedication in his work and earns the respect of his team and Anitha.

However, he faces many challenges and obstacles from Arun, who tries to sabotage his projects and reputation. Arun also tries to woo Shalini, but she rejects him. Arun then plots to kill Raghuvaran's mother by hiring a goon to ram into her scooter. Raghuvaran's mother dies in the accident, leaving him devastated and heartbroken.

Raghuvaran decides to take revenge on Arun by destroying his upcoming project, a high-rise building. He and his team plant explosives in the building's foundation and detonate them, causing the building to collapse. Raghuvaran then confronts Arun and beats him up. He also exposes Arun's illegal activities and corruption to the media and the police.
