dear MIRIAD users,
a new CARMA summerschool is upon us, and thus a new MIRIAD.
You can read all about this on the Wiiki:
http://carma.astro.umd.edu/wiki/index.php/School2013
and with this will also be a cleaned up fresh install of MIRIAD in a few
selected
binary releases (linux 64 bit, and the most recent mac versions)

In addition to miriad, I expect to add the following as well:

ds9 version 7.2
karma (same as last year)
MIS - the pipeline scripting suite used for CLASSy
xplore - calibrator flux lookup
carmafiller - convert miriad to CASA (ms) format (only for linux)

A few pre-releases are already available in
ftp://ftp.astro.umd.edu/progs/carma/miriad_2013.7/
although only miriad and ds9 can be expected to work in these.

I expect to make final versions available mid July, as the summerschool
starts July 28, but
until then, new prereleases will come out. If there's a particular
version you like to see, I'm
now a fan of VirtualBox, so I've learned how to built miriad via those.

Hi all,

For those of you who use the MIRIAD MacPort, I've pushed a new version,
4.3.4.20130606, that corresponds to this pre-release.

Cheers,

Peter W

Peter
tomorrow I'll update the VERSION to the school13 number, i.e. 4.3.6.
Does
macports maintain this file in $MIR? I was tracking a problem down with
Dick in Berkeley, and his VERSION didn't even exist???

Can you push a final school13 release for MacPort?

Thanks again,

peter

Hi Peter,

I think I have MIRIAD up and running but I might be having the same issue with the "WIP: a pgplot based plotting package" section as others.

Here are my responses from the sanity check:

Miriad% wip -d /xs
Could not open user's WIP initialization file /Users/Ben9000/.wipinit
Setting up default device [/xs]
Welcome to WIP Version: 2.3.10 16jul2013

WIP> box
WIP> end

Other than the comments above this seemed to work fine. Opened a window and displayed a box.

Miriad% wip -d /gif
Could not open user's WIP initialization file /Users/Ben9000/.wipinit
Setting up default device [/gif]
Welcome to WIP Version: 2.3.10 16jul2013

WIP> box

Didn't seem to work, the box command sent be back to the Miriad prompt and I couldn't open the resultant file.

Miriad% wip -d /ps
Could not open user's WIP initialization file /Users/Ben9000/.wipinit
Setting up default device [/ps]
Welcome to WIP Version: 2.3.10 16jul2013

WIP> box
WIP> hardcopy
HARDCOPY: Spooling command:
 lpr pgplot.ps   &
WIP> end

Seems to work, results in a file I can view.

Miriad% wip -d /xs
Could not open user's WIP initialization file /Users/Ben9000/.wipinit
Setting up default device [/xs]
Welcome to WIP Version: 2.3.10 16jul2013

WIP> image map0
Image size: 256 by 256.
WIP> header rd rd
WIP> halftone
Getting image max and min...done.
WIP> end

This one works fine too.

As you requested in your last email here are my outputs:

Miriad% cd $MIR/install
Miriad% implot in=map0 device=/null
ImPlot version 1.0 02-Aug-99
Plots multiple panels for a Miriad Image
Map:    1no axis 3
Miriad% implot in=map0 device=/ps
ImPlot version 1.0 02-Aug-99
Plots multiple panels for a Miriad Image
Map:    1no axis 3
Miriad% implot in=map0 device=/gif
ImPlot version 1.0 02-Aug-99
Plots multiple panels for a Miriad Image

Please let me know if there is something I can do to fix this if it is a problem. Sorry I'm doing this so close to the start of the school.

Thanks,
Ben

I've had several responses on the /gif issue, and they all point at the
/gif driver that's
broken on new macs. No worries, we don't need it for the summerschool!

In the mean time I've also run into a little snag with the official school13
release, but hope to fix that before the school starts.

In the mean time, everybody should have downloaded the latests release
by now and confirmed that it does the first handful of sanity tests from the
wiki. Bonus points for those who can also use the mir.subs and mir.prog
scripts to update their library and program!
