YOU KNOW? Meditation has lasting effects on the brain
Scientists just published
a study in which they found that an eight-week meditation program can have
an impact beyond the meditation period. “This is the first time that
meditation training has been shown to affect emotional processing in the brain
outside of a meditative state.” Conducted by several research centers
including Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston University, the study used
functional magnetic resonance imaging [fMRI] to look at what happens in the
brain’s amygdala after meditation training. Past studies used neuroimaging
tools during meditation, so these results are significant.
