Good morning EC and BODs,
Per my conversation with Sagar Salot, we as a team would
like to contest the result of the game we played last weekend June 4th 2017 against
SGCC Lions in division 3. It was not conducted per CLNJ rules and different rules were imposed on our team and we feel it was one the major factor for the result of the game.
Team
SGCC lions,
This is not at all
against your team but the way it was hosted by the umpire for the game (Mr. Dimpal Patel) and we would need your
support on the issue we present today.
Context
One of our player was travelling from Boston and got late
for the match. We informed the umpire about this when we started the first
innings as we had one extra team member available to field as a substitute. The
umpire warned us that rules have changed from what it was past year and if our
player is coming in later than 1 hour after the innings start, he would be
considered as a substitute and will not be allowed to bowl or bat. We respected
the fact that he was the umpire and must be aware of all the rules as he is a
part of the team which makes the rules for our league.
Our player arrived after the first break was over. We did
not write down the exact number of over when he arrived, but it was either
first or second over after the break no more than that.
We informed the umpire about his arrival as soon as the
player came to the field after the over. The umpire told us that he came after
1 hour and per the league’s rule, he cannot allow him to bowl now and bat in
the second innings. We even requested the captain from other team to let our
player be an active part of the team but it was refused which I believe was
correct from their stand point and they had every right to do it BECAUSE the
umpire told their team that per the regulations, this player cannot come in as
an active player after 1 hour of play has been completed. They took advantage
of it, and we didn’t mind it.
We were not told even once and I would stress on NOT EVEN
ONCE that the rule is that a player cannot come in as an active player after
50% of overs are bowled for the first innings.
Unaware of this, we played the game with one bowler and one
batsman less and lost the game. To our surprise, we as a team were shell
shocked to find out that the rule imposed on us was purely a mistake on
umpire’s knowledge of rules.
The IRONY of the situation is that everyone in
the umpiring squad in the league calls him (Mr.
Dimpal Patel) if there is any confusion about any rule or any
judgement. He is the Subject Matter Expert on umpiring rules. When we brought
this to the attention of BODs, instead of accepting his misjudgment and
unawareness of the rules, umpire replied in the chain of emails that our player
arrived after 25th over which is false and absurd.
We are aware and know that umpiring decisions sometimes do
not go in your favor but they equal out in longer run. We had 7 LBWs given
against us in the first game of the season, we took it as a lost game, nothing
else. But this situation is completely different as we feel cheated and have
been called liars on our faces by someone trying to hide his own ignorance.
Just because the person holds a good position in the league we will not let it
go. This is not acceptable.
Please let us know how this situation can be dealt with.
With high hopes on league to take a fair call we would like to contest the
result of the game and would term it as unfair and biased game from umpiring
stand point not from other teams prospective. We are open to BODs suggestions
and comments.
Thanks,
Team GalaxE Stars
