Dear CAN Community,
We are writing to share an important leadership update from the Cultural Advocacy Network of Michigan.
After dedicated service to the organization and Michigan’s arts and culture community, Lauren Ward has stepped away from her role as director. We are deeply grateful for her leadership, advocacy, and commitment to strengthening a unified voice for Michigan’s cultural sector.
As CAN enters this next chapter, we are seeking a collaborative and strategic Interim Director to guide the organization through this transition period.
Since 2019, CAN has worked to bring together arts and cultural organizations across the state to advocate for strong public policy, increased funding, and meaningful engagement with decision-makers. The Interim Director will serve as CAN’s key management leader and public voice while supporting the Board of Directors in strategic planning and continuing our statewide advocacy efforts.
Position Highlights:
• Part-time (up to 25 hours per week)
• Remote position
• $20–25 per hour (based on experience)
• Contract through September 30, 2026
• Potential for longer-term alignment
We are seeking candidates with experience in nonprofit leadership, public policy, advocacy, or a related field, and familiarity with Michigan’s cultural landscape is strongly valued. If you or someone in your network may be a strong fit, we encourage you to learn more.

The CAN Board of Directors
