மிக நீண்ட நாட்களாக "வாட்ஸ் அப்" என்ற சொல்லுக்கு இணையான தமிழ்ச்சொல் இருந்தால் தெரியப்படுத்துங்கள் என்று கேட்டுக்கொண்டே இருந்தேன்..

அனேகர் தமக்குத் தெரிந்த பல சொற்களைத் தெரிவித்து இருந்தனர்.

இப்போது, மலேசியாவில் நடைபெற்ற தனி தமிழியக்க மாநாட்டில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட நுட்பவியல் கலைச்சொற்களில்...

வாட்ஸ் அப் என்றால்.."புலனம்" என்ற சொல் இடம் பெற்றிருக்கிறது.

அன்பர்கள் இதுபற்றி கருத்து தெரிவிக்கலாம்.

மதிப்பிற்குரிய திரு செல்வன் மற்றும் தாமரை  கூறுவது உண்மை, திரு கணேசன் அவர்களின் படைப்புகளை பங்களிப்பதில் "புலனம்" நிச்சயமாக உதவும்.

"என்னாப்பு" என்கிற சொல் தவிர, இதர் சொற்களும் புழக்கத்தில் உள்ளது..

I also dont use whatsapp, twitter or facebook (though some five or six years back i made an account and i keep getting notifications on my email which i have marked as spam!)

now coming to the topic, why we need a tamil word for Whatsapp?  are you looking for an equivalent word (இணையான தமிழ்ச்சொல்) for a tamil app? otherwise it is just a ProperName, trademarked and registered; we cannot rechristen it!

( i at times wonder why சூர்யநாராயண சாஸ்திரிகள்   rechristened himself பரிதிமாற் கலைஞர்!  btw somebody can throw light on etymology of மால் and கலை /கலா  and how much are they with tamil origin and sanskrit?)

பெருவுடையார் – ப்ரகதீஸ்வரர் என்று பல காட்டுகளை நான் கூறமுடியும். எதைக் கவனிக்கிறோம் என்பதே அடிப்படை.  middle kingdom என்பதே சீனத்தின் இயற்பெயர். அப்படியா அழைக்கிறோம்? சின் குடிவழியார் ஹான் குடிவழிக்கு அப்புறம் வந்தவர். சீனர் தங்களை ஹான் குடிவழி என்றே சொல்லிக்கொள்வர். நிப்பான்/நிகோன் என்றா சொல்கிறோம்? சப்பான் என்பது  நாம் அவர்களை அழைக்கும் பெயர். அதேபோல தாய்ட்ச்சுலாந்து என்பதைப் பிரஞ்சுவழியினர் சார்ந்து செருமானியர் என்றழைக்கிறோம். நெதர்லாந்து மக்களை டச்சு மக்கள் என்கிறோம். நம் நாட்டையே இந்தியா என்கிற பாரத் என்றுதான் இந்தியச்சட்ட அமைப்பு அழைத்துக்கொள்கிறது. ஏன் தமிழரை எத்தனை காலம் மதராஸி என்றழைத்தார்கள்? மதராசை இப்பொழுது சென்னை என்றழைக்கவில்லையா?

WhatsApp Messenger என்பது பலவித Messenger-களில் ஒரு வகை.  WhatsApp என்பது ஒரு Brand Name(பொரிம்பு பெயர்) தானே. அதற்கு தமிழில் பெயர் வைக்கவேண்டுமா? 

அறிவியல் மற்றும் நுட்பியலில் உருவாக்கவேண்டியச் சொற்கள் பல இலட்சம் இருக்க, இதுபோன்று Brand Name (பொரிம்பு பெயர்) - களுக்கு தமிழில் பெயர் வைப்பது எவ்விதத்தில் தமிழை வளர்க்கும்?

உண்மைதான்; கேட்டதாற் சொன்னேன்.  அதேபொழுது சில பொரிம்புப்பெயர்களை (காட்டு: யுனிக்கோடு. facebook)  பழக்கம்கருதி வேறுபெயரிற்  (காட்டு: ஒருங்குறி, முகநூல்) புழங்கநினைத்தால்  சிலவற்றை ஒப்புக்கொண்டதுண்டு. பலவற்றில் நகர்ந்துவிடுவேன்.
