Though the reveiw writer has every right over his review of any materials, when a book like Alavai, a high and rich research resource for future generation, the reviewer before writing any of 'his' comments, he should clarifiy first with authentitive sources. Here  I see more of review writer's 'bias' of unknown facts on Muslim invasion of Madurai. I can very well say the review writer did not know properly the situation or the history involved in those time. There were no muslim army soldiers in Pandya or Some other Tamil Kings army. Muslim soldiers have been taken into Hindu Kings' armies in Deccan (not Tamilnadu) during 15th century, that is one hundred years after the invasion of Muslim into Tamilnadu. The first induction started by Saluva Narasimha during 1470 CE, in Rayalaseema area, this was quoted eminent historians like Burton Stein, who wrote a scholarly works on South India on the basis of Indian scholar works.

The clear 'showing' of secularism in review writer here is most unwanted. Probably he wanted to 'show' himself as a secular to his bosses. He could have shown that through his articles, but not through a highly authentative sources written book like 'Alavai'.

I have not read the review. But Hindu is terribly biased against Hindus. Its explicit anti-Hindu stand is critisizied even by its loyal readers.

As a reviewer to The Hindu myself, (my rview of a book on marine environment appears in The Hindu of 15th Sep http://www.hindu.com/br/2009/09/15/stories/2009091550451700.htm)
I dont fault the paper, though what you say is right; biased against the Hindus; in the instant case, however, the reviewer has not REVIEWED but chosen to show that he is a SECULAR perdson! thats a pity; my manuscript has been seen through by stalwarts like Dr Y Subbarayulu, an eminent historian who has done extraordinary work with Noboru Karashima of Taisho university, Padmashri Iravatham (who said nobody is fit enough to say anything about your work) Dr S Rajagopal a renowned epigraphist, and Dr Santhalingam an authority on Madurai history. Therefore I am really not worried about what Srivtsan had to say!
As Mathew Arnold says, "Let them have it as they will"
anyway thanks for your worthy comments
