வரால் எனப்படும் மீன் அண்மையில் உருவாகிய தெலுங்கானா மாகாணத்தின் மீன் என அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
வரிகளை உடையதால் வரால். விரால் என்றும், பிரால் (braal) என்றும் பேச்சில் வழங்கும்.



மரால் என்று வரால் சில இடங்களில் அழைக்கப்படுகிறதா? விழி- முழி- என்கிறோம்: “முழிச்சுப் பார்த்தான்”, ...
அதிலிருந்து “Murrel" என ஆங்கிலத்தில் பெயர் வரால்/விரால் மீனுக்கு வந்ததா?

வேதத்தில் வராலின் பெயர் ஶகுல < சக்களி-. சக்களிதல் = தட்டையாதல். சகடு = wheel, சாகாடு = வண்டியின் பிளாட்பார்ம். 
“பீலி பெய் சாகாடும் அச்சு இறும்” - வள்ளுவர். அச்சு < அக்‌ஷ ‘axle'
வாம மார்க்க பூஜையில், தேவிக்குப் படையல்  ஶகுல மீன்.  ஶகுல என வராற்பேர் பற்றிப் பின்னர். 

Murrel - வராலுக்கு எந்த ஆண்டிலிருந்து பெயராகப் பயன்படுத்துகின்றனர் எனத் தெரிவிப்போருக்கு நன்றி.

I think the direction is opposite: varaal > araal > aaral. Like: vindu > indu "seed, drop, soma, candra' .
Are aaral and varaal same fish??

varaal in Pollachi, Palghat is called kaNNaa miin, due its prominent protruding eyes.

வரால் மீன் வேறு. பெரிய மீன்.

ஆரல் சிறுமீன் - வராலுக்கும் ஆரலுக்கும் தொடர்பில்லை.

ஆரல் = sand eel 

ஆரல் உலகெங்கிலும் அழிந்து வருகிறது:

ஆரல் மீன் பற்றி அறிய:

ஆர்- = spoke of spoked wheel, அரை (ஆர்) - தாமரையின் நாளம். அர-விண்ட/விரிந்த : அரவிந்தம் 
ஆரல் - வண்டிச் சக்கர ஆர் (radial spoke), ஆர்/அரை (அரவிந்தம்) - போல உள்ள sand eel.

தான்அது பொய்ப்பின் யான் எவன் செய்கோ
தினைத்தாள்அன்ன சிறுபசுங்கால
ஒழுகுநீர் ஆரல் பார்க்கும்
குருகும் உண்டுதான் மணந்த ஞான்றே.


தலைவன் தலைவியை மணந்து கொள்வதற்குக் காலம் தாழ்த்துகின்றான். இந்நிலையில் தலைவி, தோழியிடம் கூறியது. இப்பாடலை இயற்றியவர் கபிலர்.


கருத்துரை
தலைவன் என்னைப் பிறர் அறியாதவாறு காண வந்தபோது என்னோடு கூடியிருந்தான். அப்போது அங்கே யாரும் இல்லை. என் நலன் நுகர்ந்த கள்வனாகிய தலைவன் மட்டுமே இருந்தான்.(பிறர் அறியாதவாறு கூடியிருந்த தலைவன்,இன்று பிறரறிய மணம் செய்து கொள்ள காலம் நீட்டிக்கின்றான் என்றமையால் கள்வன் என்றாள் போலும்!) அவன் என்னிடம் செய்து கொடுத்த உறுதிமொழியிலிருந்து தவறினான் என்றால் நான் என்ன செய்வேன்?நான் அவனோடு இருந்த நாளில், அங்கே ஓடுகின்ற நீரில் செல்லுகின்ற ஆரல் மீனின் வருகையைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டு, தினைத்தாளைப் போன்ற சிறிய பசுங்கால்களையுடைய குருகும் இருந்தது. (குருகுகூட எங்களைப் பார்க்கவில்லை.மீனைத்தான் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தது என்று சொல்லும் போது சாட்சியாகக்கூட ஒருவரும் இல்லையே என்று மனம் குமுறும் ஒரு சாதாரண பெண்ணைப் பார்க்க முடிகிறது. சரி, பேசக்கூடிய சக்தியாவது குருகுக்கு இருக்குமானால் அவன் என்னிடம் சொன்ன உறுதிமொழியையாவது அது கூறும்.அதுவும் இல்லையே என்ற ஆதங்கம் பாடலில் தொனிக்கிறது.)


சொல்பொருள் விளக்கம்
யாரும் இல்லை-நானும் அவனும் இருந்த இடத்தில்) யாரும் இல்லை. தானே கள்வன்- (என்னைக் களவிலே கலந்த )கள்வனாகிய அவனே என்னோடு இருந்தான்.தான் அது பொய்ப்பின்- அவன் செய்த சூளுரை பொய்யானால், யான் எவன் செய்கோ-யான் என்ன செய்வேன்? தினைத்தாள் அன்ன- தினைப்பயிரின் நீண்டு வளர்ந்த தாளினைப் போல, (தினைப் பயிரின் நீண்ட இலைகளை இன்றும் தாள் என்று கூறுவது நடைமுறையில் உள்ளது.) சிறு பசுங்கால- சிறிய பசிய கால்கள், ஒழுகுநீர்-ஓடிச் செல்லும் நீர், ஆரல் பார்க்கும்- ஆரல்மீனின் வருகையைப் பார்த்திருக்கும், குருகும் உண்டு- குருகும் இருந்தது,தான் மணந்த –நானும் அவனும் களவில் கூடிய , ஞான்றே- நாளிலே.

ஒருவேளை அது இதே species ஐச் சேர்ந்த இன்னொரு ரகமாக இருக்கலாமோ ?

I am surprised that DEDR or Hobson-Jobson does not list murrel or
maral as coming from Tamil or Telugu.

தமிழக கடற்கரையின் அத்தனை நிலங்களும் பணக்கார முதலைகளாலும், அரசியல்வாதிகளின் பினாமிகளாலும் வளைக்கப்பட்டு விட்டது.

Here are my 3 papers about Indus Valley - Dravidian connections. The so called' Vedic Night' & spread of Vedic cults, via Varuna worship,

மடைகளைத் தாக்கி, ஆற்றின் வழியிலே சென்று,

கடல்புகா மகாமீனை முடுகி ... கடலில் புகுந்து, அங்குள்ள பெரிய
மீனை விரட்டித் தாக்கி,

வாளை தான்மேவு கமல வாவி மேல்வீழு ... வாளை மீன் தான்
இருந்த தாமரைக்குளத்தில் வந்து வீழும்

மலர்வாவி ... (இத்தனை பெருமையை உடைய) மலர்ச் சுனையில்**  

ஆனால் ....'வாகை சூட வா ' என்று ஒரு திரைப்படம் வந்தது......படம் தோல்வி அடைந்தது தான்........ ஒரு பாடல் காட்சியில் மழை பொழியும் போது 
மீன் ஒன்று துள்ளி மரத்தில் ஒட்டிக்கொண்டு ஏறுவது போல் சில நொடிகள் காட்டினான். அது என்ன மீன் என்று தெரியவில்லை.வராலை விட சிறியது;
குரவையை விட பெரியது. நிச்சயம் அது graphics இல்லை. பாடல் முழுவதும் இயற்கையில் பறவைகள் &விலங்குகளின் செயல்பாடுகள் பல இடம் பெற்றன.
கம்பர் உண்மையைத் தான் பாடியிருக்கிறாரோ என்று இப்போது கேள்வி எழுகிறது.

இன்னொரு கேள்வி: 
வேதத்தில் வராலின் பெயர் ஶகுல < சக்களி-. சக்களிதல் = தட்டையாதல். சகடு = wheel, சாகாடு = வண்டியின் பிளாட்பார்ம்.

தமிழ்/தெலுங்கில் இருந்து பெயர் வைத்துள்ளார் பீக்கர் (1851).

Etymology: wallago: Bleeker, in 1851, took the Indian fish name, gave it generic range and used it connection with a new species. The name is "walaga" in Telugu / Tamil.
