ஆழ்வார்கள் காலத்தில் திருவல்லிக்கேணி எனும் பகுதி மயிலய் சார்ந்துதான் இருந்தது என்பது ஆழ்வார் பாடலால் அறியலாம்
பேயாழ்வார் என்பார் இந்த ஊரில் பிறந்தவர் என்பது வய்ணவ வரலாறு இன்றும் அவர் இறந்த இடம் பேயாழ்வார் அவதாரத்தலம் எனும்
