Hi,

I'm looking for "stuff" (technology, standards, implementations) that
define contemporary mechanisms for querying for and retrieving medical
image data and MINT looks very interesting in this respect. I have spent
some time on the website and looked at the documents and meeting minutes.

The first thing I have noticed is that WADO RS is mentioned in many
places, but I cannot find a document about it, ie something like DICOM
Supplement 148 for WADO WS, only for WADO RS. Does such a document exist
(in draft)?

The second thing is of course that MINT 2.0 is mentioned several places.
Is there anything more detailed about MINT 2.0 than the document "MINT
V2 0 Operations (draft final).xlsx". Also, it would be nice to know what
the relation is between WADO RS and MINT 2.0. Will WADO RS have
normalized metadata (like MINT) or not (like WADO). Will WADO RS have
support for searching for study search (as described by slide 23 in MINT
Work Item.pdf). When can we expect MINT 2.0 and do you expect better
luck getting that accepted for DICOM standardization?

Thanks,

Thomas Sondergaard

Thomas,

The WADO Restful Services is being working by DICOM WG-27 and is being
presented to WG-06 in Berlin next week. There is a draft supplement
available for review, the number has not yet been assigned but will be
next week. You can find the current draft in the wg27 folder for the
06-06-2012 meeting held at the SIIM Conference this week. If you don't
have access to the DICOM WG folders, let me know and I will send you a
draft copy.

There is another work item being developed by DICOM WG-27 called STOW
(Store Objects Over the Web). It will provide both Web and Restful
Services for storing and appending. This is in power point form and
not yet started as a supplement.

A team has been put together to develop MINT2.0 over the summer. There
is a Medical Imaging and Management Information (MIAMI) Project
started under OpenHealthTools.org and MINT2.0 is a sub project under
MIAMI. It is currently not open to the public until it reaches
critical mass, most likely by September.

MINT2.0 is essentially an API a reference implementation of WADO RS +
STOW RS. I expect WADO-RS to be adopted in the DICOM 2013 standard.
Hopefully STOW will make it as well since it only adds two additional
operations. MINT2.0 will have a few extended APIs to support
versioning, attachments, QC functions that will be addressed in WG-27
in the future.

The searching capability is supposed to be worked under the QIDO Work
Item. This work item has not been worked in over a year, but there are
people available now from Vital and AGFA to start defining Web and
Restful search capabilities.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the prompt and detailed answer. I don't have access to the
DICOM WG folders, so please send me a draft copy.

Thanks,

Thomas
