Americanheavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch has released nine studio albums, two compilation albums, one extended play (EP), 33 singles and 24 music videos. Formed in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005,[1] the group features vocalist Ivan Moody, rhythm guitarist Zoltan Bathory, lead guitarist Andy James, bassist Chris Kael.[2] and drummer Charlie Engen. In 2007, the band released its debut album The Way of the Fist, which reached number 107 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[3][4] All three singles from the album reached the top 20 of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart.[5] After Hook replaced previous guitarist Darrell Roberts, 5FDP released War Is the Answer in 2009 which reached the top ten of the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA.[3][4] Four singles from the album reached the Mainstream Rock top ten,[5] while the band's cover of "Bad Company" was certified platinum.[4]
Five Finger Death Punch's sixth studio album Got Your Six was released in 2015, becoming the third consecutive release by the band to debut at number 2 on the Billboard 200.[3] The album was also their first to reach the top ten of both the Australian Albums Chart and the UK Albums Chart,[10][9] as well as a number of other regions. All four singles from Got Your Six reached the top five of the Mainstream Rock chart, with "Wash It All Away" becoming the band's fourth number one on the chart.[5]
The band has been especially prolific in a rather short period of time. The Las Vegas-based rockers released nine total albums dating back to their 2007 debut, The Way of the Fist, and they've continued to evolve through some stylistic and personnel changes in the process.
The band started with a desire to toil in the type of brutal metal that they grew up with and felt wasn't being served at the time. As lineup changes occurred and the band's success grew, they kept things on the harder side while finding ways to expand their horizons with more melodic offerings, as well. The end result is a string of highly successful albums that have connected with listeners to make the group one of the biggest acts going.
But as we reflect on their output, we've been faced with the difficult task of ranking their albums from weakest to strongest, and it's admittedly a fine line for some discs to be ranked ahead of others. Scroll through the gallery below to see how we ranked Five Finger Death Punch's studio albums.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH are a divisive band. There are many reasons for people to fall on either side of the fence when discussing them. Musically speaking they have trodden a rocky path, delivering some genuinely great metal songs over the years, while also creating some equally as forgettable.
Afterlife is album number nine and sees them at a crossroads as a band. Over the course of the last few years through personal struggles, lineup changes and some questionable choices, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have been a band lacking in direction, in danger of falling into obscurity.
It is hard to say what will happen to FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH going forward. They have become an arena band and will arguably remain so for the foreseeable future. It seems on current evidence that they are happy to continue spinning their wheels without really challenging themselves or their audience, sooner or later they will have to decide what comes next, or the only head banging they will hear from here on out will the sound of their own heads bouncing off the glass ceiling above them.
The as-yet-untitled album will be the first to feature drummer Charlie Engen, who took over from Jeremy Spencer in December last year. Spencer was forced to quit after having a second operation on his back.
The last couple of years have seen some turbulent times for Vegas five piece Five Finger Death Punch. From addiction, to rehab, to claims they had disbanded following members quitting- these things have all helped weave the angst riddled web that is their newest album And Justice For None.
Fake is the stomping opener that is needed to get the listener prepared for some of the most lyrically bracing content FFDP have brought to the table thus far (which is saying something as FFDP have never been ones to hold back). Meanwhile Top Of The World encapsulates a similar pounding urgency to Under And Over It- for this reason (amongst others) it has the potentially to be a new live favourite.
Now that their debut album is out, expect Flat Black to do a TON of touring this summer. They made their live debut on August 24, 2023, at the FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, California opening for Godsmack.
"We had a ton of songs because we really started writing early in the process and had a wealth of material going into the studio," FFDP bassist Chris Kael said. "The creative juices were already flowing, so when we got into the studio, we just kept writing. We got to a point where we were asking ourselves which songs we should cut out of the album and we pretty much all agreed we didn't want to lose any of them. We didn't want to lose any of them because we were extremely happy with the way things were turning out."
Kael said members of the band went to their music label, Prospect Park, with the idea of doing a double album, but the label wasn't interested. That's when the band challenged the label to cull out some of the songs. Each song was such quality, nobody was willing to take an ax to any of them. One suggestion was to cut a double album, but all involved finally decided to record two volumes of "The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell" with both being released last year.
The reason it was decided to cut the albums into two volumes, Kael said, was because it makes it easier for FFDP fans to learn the songs note for note and to enjoy them individually. A double album released at the same time would be too much and not as enjoyable.
"The fans really have an opportunity to digest each track and really learn every aspect of every song like when I was growing up," said Kael. "Two full albums at one time is a lot, so we broke it up for the listening experience."
The band is currently out on the road touring with Nothing More, Hellyeah and Volbeat with a scheduled concert at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Lone Star Amphitheater. As for the tour, Kael said it's like no other for the band. This is the biggest so far.
"This is really the first time that Five Finger Death Punch has done a full headlining tour," he said. "This tour has been huge with us, Volbeat, Hellyeah and Nothing More. Just the scope of it all. We're out for six weeks right now finishing up in Colorado and rolling through Lubbock in just a little bit. It's just been an absolute whirlwind. The fans sing along with every single word and it's been some of the loudest places we've ever played. With the amount of people we have and the intensity, it's been incredible every single day out here."
And that's the kind of concert Kael said to expect locally. As with the most recent FFDP albums, the live performance is a musical journey and each one is better than the next. That and there's something for every FFDP fan.
"If you've seen Five Finger Death Punch, you know that every time we come around we try to one up ourselves," said Kael. "There's no difference with this one. We brought out huge lights and really put together an incredible set list that will reach every fan we've got. If you like the heavy stuff, we've got that. If you are a fan of the slower stuff, we've got that as well. Just like we do on the album, we try to take you on a journey with us and it will be one hell of a journey for Lubbock."

Late last year, Five Finger Death Punch released a greatest hits album called 'A Decade Of Destruction', a release that only served to highlight just how awfully repetitive their music is, over the course of six full-length records within the span of a decade no less. But love or loathe 'em, Five Finger Death Punch are one of the biggest rock/metal acts on the planet currently, so they can kinda get away with a "Best Of" release. So kudos to the group for achieving the kind of massive success they've cultivated, as I can definitely respect the capitalistic endeavours there, but zero kudos for the actual music here on this album as it's bad with a capital B.
