Hi everyone!

I am thinking this is an unfixable problem, but figured I would post to see if anyone happens to have any solutions to this issue.

I am a medical student and am carrying out a longitudinal study on implicit weight bias in medical students. I utilized the Harvard IAT weight bias test within a Qualtrics Survey via code that was posted on https://minnojs.github.io/minnojs-blog/qualtrics-iat/ - we delivered the first round of our survey last week and got great responses but did not get the IAT results due to the code of the IAT being within a text question type on Qualtrics instead of a text entry question type. I think that because there was not a data entry required to be recorded, this resulted in none of the IAT results being recorded in our data. We were wondering if this is an issue that you have encountered in the past and if there is anyway to retroactively retrieve the data.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey,

Qualtrics has a few quirks regarding how it saves data from questions and Embedded Variables under-the-hood, and this might be a long shot, but you could try to retroactively change the question type, and re-download the data.
I've had data from Embedded Variables magically appear by creating them retroactively, so this might work.

Of course, retroactively modifying a survey after data collection is generally a very bad idea so Qualtrics might warn you about potential data loss. Make sure you have a safe copy of both the survey and the collected data before you make any changes.

Good luck,
Michael

Thanks so much for your response! When you say re-download data, is there something specific you mean besides just looking at the data/analysis tab within Qualtrics?

I don't know if the data/analysis tab within Qualtrics will show data 'recovered' this way. I don't have a reason to think it won't, but I have no personal experience.
If this worked (fingers crossed), you'll need to process the IAT data from a local CSV file somehow (R instructions; Excel instructions), so you might as well download it now, instead of using Qualtrics's data/analysis tab.
