As a leader in your Senate District, would you please pass along my communication to your delegates who are going to be attending the Third District convention on Saturday? Thank you.  Here is my brief communication.

My name is David Swan. I am currently involved in Senate District 46.

I am running for one of the vice chair positions in the Republican party's third district. I would appreciate your support this Saturday at our convention in Maple Grove.

Why should you support me for vice chair over another candidate?

Here is what makes me different.

1. Although I am a life long Republican, I have no quams about calling out un-Republican behavior and insisting that we stay true to our guiding principles. I have a lowtolerance for people who use the language of limited government to garner votes, but then govern like they have the right to spend my money freely and grow government.
    These principles include:
  • Personal liberty and responsibility that comes from the inalienable rights given to us not by government but by our Creator
  • Self government first as the basis for a free society
  • Government that stays within its constitutionally defined boundaries at both the state and federal levels
2. For me the big tent is not about sacrificing these principles in order to win votes. Ultimately that approach will only result in giving away our principles a little at a time until we have nothing left but empty rhetoric. The Republican establishment today is almost completely irrelevant as regards limiting our government and safeguarding our liberty. That must change.

3. I believe that there is an enormous grass roots movement gathering momentum to return to our founding principles. Our big tent already exists, but we have been trying to build a different tent. I believe that f we can articulate the message clearly, we can change the direction of our country. It will take integrity, laser-focused vision that refuses to compromise these principles on the altar of pragmatism or winning elections, and it will take passion and energy.

So much of our liberty has been taken away in the last 100 days that we have to act now. Only a bold, passionate departure from the last 15 years of Republican leadership will allow us to change the direction of our country. We have to win elections, but we have to first be committed to the principles that will enable us to make real change happen. Then we can make a difference.

Thank you for considering my request for support.

Your servant for liberty,

David Swan
