Dear Republican Leader,
A cherished friend of the Republican Party of Minnesota passed away
Tuesday at the age of 64. Dennis Newinski, affectionately known as Denny
represented the East Metro in the state House in 1990 and he proceeded to
run for Congress as the Republican endorsed candidate in 1994, 1996, and
1998. Denny's unwavering faith and commitment to service is an inspiration
to all Minnesotans. We are extremely grateful for him and our prayers are
with his family at this time.
The Pioneer Press remembered Denny with this article:
Dennis Newinski, a one-time state legislator who ran unsuccessfully for
Congress three times, died at his home Tuesday. He was 64.
The Maplewood resident suffered from mesothelioma, a rare type of cancer
linked to asbestos exposure.
Newinski was an optimist, a fighter and - most of all - a man of faith,
say family and friends. When he was diagnosed in 2007, doctors gave him
months to live, said Republican Party Chairman Ron Carey.
A year later and inspired by Newinski's steadfast faith, Carey asked him
to give the invocation at the state Republican convention in 2008. There,
Newinski talked about his illness and how he was still thankful for
blessings in life, Carey said.
