"Senate District 46 Delegates,

I had the opportunity to work with many of you last year when I was Field Director on Congressman Erik Paulsen’s successful congressional campaign. The work of activists around the district, including yourselves, is the reason Erik is in Congress today. I am now hoping to gain your support as I run for one of the vice chair seats on the Third Congressional District Executive Committee.

Last year, I organized and implemented the field plan on the Paulsen campaign. Not only did Erik win the district by over 7%, he won 12 of the 14 state house districts fully contained within the Third Congressional District, including 6 that are currently represented by DFLers in the Minnesota House. These are seats we must start putting back into the Republican column.

Before my work on the Paulsen campaign, I worked for the National Republican Senatorial Committee and was Co-Chair of the New Jersey College Republicans in college, where I was the 2004 “Activist of the Year” for my work during President Bush’s re-election.

I’m running for one of the vice chair slots because I’m frustrated. I live in Senate District 43, where we began the decade with an all-Republican delegation at the State Capitol. I’m frustrated because DFLers Terri Bonoff and John Benson now represent me in the Minnesota Senate and Minnesota House.

As an activist in Senate District 46, you share my frustration with your all-DFL delegation at the State Capitol. In order to begin turning the tide in areas like SD46, we must start focusing on taking back some local and municipal seats. Erik’s victory shows that a Republican message can win throughout the Third Congressional District and we must focus on getting that message through locally.

I’m excited to apply my experience organizing for Erik to the Third Congressional District. As a vice chair, I look forward to building a truly grassroots effort that touches the entire congressional district aimed at winning back the legislative seats we have lost this decade. While we were complacent with Jim Ramstad in Congress for the past decade, the DFLers have gotten their act together in the Third Congressional District. Not only have they out-worked us, they’ve out organized us. Now it falls to us to turn that around.

Please feel free to email me at yate...@gmail.com or call me at 952-239-8936 if you have any questions. If you’re on Facebook, feel free to connect with me there! I look forward to seeing you next weekend at the Third District Convention and I’d love to earn your support.

Sincerely,

John-Paul Yates
