Hi there,

I’m hoping some super user can help me out with this following error when I try to import Excel 2007 data file into ACL.  I have installed "2007 Office System Driver" is required to read data from 2007 but still get error.
This was posted on User Forum:

Office system files such as MS Office Access and MC Office Excel on Windows XP
SP2 and higher.  The Drive can be installed from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&displaylang=en

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I’m an ACL novice.  Thanks!

I recently had this problem (same version) and sidestepped the issue by exporting the data in tab delimited format to a new text file.  This would be worth a call to ACL support…

Hi all.

I, too, encountered this error (import of  Excel) in version 9.1  I spoke with tech support for some time and even tinkered with de-registering and re-registering system DLLs in windows to get this import to work.  In the end, we had to revert back to v9.0 to get back to a working solution on Allina PCs.  What I did learn from that experience is that the body of code defining the Excel import (data define) wizard was completely rewritten from v9.0 to v9.1.

You will find that the general user community of ACL dislikes Excel as an import file format when reviewing the forums.  There are a myriad of issues: getting field widths and field types correct, etc.

So, as a precaution and a best practice, I always export to tab delimited, text format as well.

Have a great day!

I prefer to save the Excel file as a DBF 4 format which also works around the problem without having to request or download a different file type.  Good luck.

I got it to finally work after few trials with text delimited.  Thanks to all for your input!

That works great too, but I think they disabled DBF 4 export in Excel 2007.  This was a method we used to use a lot in our shop until the upgrade.
