Hi,

I am trying to learn more about operating systems. I am aware that I
am still going to learn a lot by studying minix3 but I read that
minix3 is not intended to be used as a learning tool but rather as an
experimenting and research tool. So should I go for the 3rd or 2nd
edition of OSDI ?

Giving that I am alone in the dark is there a way to have access to
the solutions of the problems described in the book you advise me to
use ?

Thanks in advance

Well, if you'd like to learn about MINIX 3, then you'll want the third
edition of OSDI. I think MINIX 3 is still very good for studying, but
it might be more complex than MINIX 1 and 2. Also, it probably has the
widest range of topics to learn about. Which version you'll want to
learn about will probably depend on the scope of what you want to
learn.

Sorry? I'm not sure what this is about. Was this perhaps intended for
someone specific?

I hope this helps,

Thanks for your answer. I just want to the most progressive and
helpfull book to learn more about OS design. Jumping into something
complex without a strong background may not help me.

Sorry English is not my mother tong. I was referring to anybody who
will advise me. I know that there are problems to be solved by the
reader in both OSDIs and if someone advises me to use a one them how
can I get the answers or at least a feedback so I can check or self-
check my understanding.

Ok. Well, I'd suggest the third edition of OSDI. I've heard that
others have really enjoyed it.

From what I understand, the answer book is available to only
educators. Beyond that, I'm sorry, but I don't know.

Here's where one would sign-in as a registered instructor, I believe:

Hi,

Thanks for your answers, I bought the operating system and network
books from a french editor and I bought the exercise corrections from
him too.
I will read the latest OSDI if I ever manage to finish studying the 2
books :).

Regards
