It's been a while since the last post here, but that is because 1) I am afraid I cannot be bothered to write a post about every minor patch, and I doubt you'd be interested in reading such posts anyway, and 2) some major stuff is being developed in long-term branches right now!

This patch deserves its own post though, if only to make everyone on the list who tracks minix-current aware of the fact that it comes with an important and fairly elaborate docs/UPDATING entry.

In short, we are replacing some of the old, outdated, obsolete MINIX user and group entries in /etc/master.passwd and /etc/group with the new, shiny, up-to-date NetBSD entries. This is necessary in particular to make it possible to import more programs from NetBSD that rely on the existence of those entries. This change was always going to be needed at some point, and now that it has become more urgent with an upcoming wave of new imports, we'd rather get it out of the way once and for all.

It does mean that if you have added your own user and/or group accounts on your minix installation, you will have to ensure that you update the master.passwd and group files in such a way that you do not lose those accounts. Again, see docs/UPDATING for instructions. If anything is not clear, please feel free to ask. We'll be happy to assist you.

Regards!
David
