So there are news for minishowcase. I try not to abuse of your
patience, so I don't announce unless it is strictly necessary, and
this announce is loaded with news, tips and add-ons.
First, to everyone that does not know yet, minishowcase has a Blog
where you can follow the process, the releases and all the new
functions I'm regularly adding to the project. You can visit us at
http://minishowcase.frwrd.net/blog/ and leave comments, tell us what
you think or just keep informed.
Current release v09b87 has many improvements, including a lighter
download, strongly improved code that speeds up many processes and the
gallery in general, better (yet not perfect) thumbnail and image
handling, and a new Widescreen Layout, including a simplified select
menu on top. By checking the Blog and the settings file you can
discover more of all those improvements.
Most important utility is an Automated Thumbnail and Image Caching
Utility completely build on ajax, simple, fast and quite reliable to
be the first release. By opening the /galleries/index.php file,
setting $thumbnail_creation to true and adding /galleries/?thumbnails
to the URL you'll enter the interface which will easily help you
rebuild all your galleries thumbnails. It'll also cache big images to
a size you select in the settings, so your 7 megapixel images don't
take forever to load. You'll find more information in the Blog.
Last but not least, a new Thread has been added to the Community
called Tips & Troubleshooting, where I'll be regularly adding new
tips, secrets, ideas, common troubleshooting and frequently asked
questions for your comfort and pleasure. Later on I intend to build a
proper FAQ page and good documentation (which takes a lot of time that
I don't have now) so you can feel more at home using the super-easy
minishowcase.
I say good-bye, but you can leave messages in the Blog, post your
issues in the Community and I'll continuing doing the best I can so
your experience (and your user's) with minishowcase continues to be if
not the best, the simplest and more comfortable.
Best wishes,
Victor
