Dear all,

I am a postdoc at Caltech. In my experiment, I would like to have a distance of ~3mm between the cortex and the GRIN lens (see the image attached). However, the working distance of the GRIN lenses in miniscope are all less than 1 mm. So, I was wondering if it is possible to get GRIN lens with a longer working distance? Can I still get single neuron resolution with it? Thanks in advance for your kind help!

Hi Hongsun,
The imaging configuration you showed here isn't a great match for using the V3 Miniscope or the standard Inscopix Commercial microscope. My suggestion would be to use a V4 Miniscope without any external, additional optics like relay GRIN lenses. You could swap out one or both of the lenses in the objective to achieve the working distance you need, https://github.com/Aharoni-Lab/Miniscope-v4/wiki/Lens-Configurations.

Thanks so much, Prof. Aharoni!

It looks like that I could get up to 2mm wording distance with V4 Miniscope. It might still be too short for my application because I will have other devices/probes above the cranial window too, which may collide with objective lenses. Using a  small diameter GRIN lens with a few mm working distance will be greatly helpful. However, perhaps it is not feasible to do that?
