Your symptoms sound different to the mine, but that could just be because of my methods (running the Arduino IDE in Debian). My Minion was well and truly corpse-like at any rate.
I managed to crash one of my Minions so that it would freeze when uploading a sketch, and not run any sketch at all (even the one I'd successfully uploaded previously).
After a bit of noodling around on the internet I discovered this was a common issue with this bootloader (which is also used on the LeoStick if you want to read up).
By replacing the bootloader with the one suggested I not only have a working Minion once again, but one that is much less likely to develop the same issue in the future.
I'm afraid I can't help with the method of updating the bootloader, since one of our more knowledgeable Hackerspace members did it for me. He used a Mega, but I don't know which pins and program he used. Should be a How-To or Guru that's more helpful.
