Finally final year!!!
The nearly 3 months vacation had eased out the election tensions.The all important registrations to be done on the TNP site had truth on his duty from day one.With four subjects and one lab it was to become too hectic than what is permissible for a final year mining student.
The Mineral processing and Ground Control Engineering ensured loads of first hour classes.MP classes saw a comeback of Dr MGR and Mr KRC and we were reminded how we are friends,laymen and mining engineers!!GCE eventually became Ground (out of) control engineering with the much talked about legend returning to take this subject.Apart from Ground control we gained a lot of knowledge (in first 10 minutes of each period and when anyone had a doubt) about the trio-Wipro,Infosys and Cognizant,foreign education systems,the faulty grade systems,unheard names of mining books and most importantly the strict protocols of presenting a seminar-right from the topic to the international standards of writing references.
Mine economics was taken up by a highly educated inter-continental(3 continents to be precise) lecturer.It began with few people noting down the capslock-on-font “notes” on the “board” and ended with the “very good notes” he would give the CR for exams.RFE by VRS included extensive narrations from which we picked up what was important.MP labs was the noisiest yet with crushing grinding and consisted of lot of statistical analysis and graphs which were more often than not wrong!!
Rao,whose first name had been long forgotten,became the opener for the placement session with him bagging Mu Sigma.Later he was seen with a ‘Mu sigma-do the Maths’ bag when he was recognized with his Wipro Technologies placement.Single figure placed entries continued with TCS,Headstrong,Wipro Tech coming in quick succession in the first two months.CIL stole the limelight for obvious reasons and had many dates of coming before actually coming.The PC and Mr.Gautam continued to be pestered asking for the actual dates.Finally it did come on 15th November and 18/26 were placed in that.A fairly good placement stastics seen by the end of the sem with Bharat,Gachke,Gautam,Gyan,Dinesh,Rao,Reddy Anna bagging two each.
TMV decided to set new standards with 4 placement...yes FOUR!
