Script installation and debugging

I'm quite new to this but quite comfortable with developing with JavaScript.  I'm using the following script as my starting point, as it is kind of similar to what I want to do, by adding an additional button:  http://qbf.tv/sendandwait

I've tried to install this as either the header js or body js to no luck.  I saw in one of the scripts, a debug function.

Any suggestions, in general or specific to this issue, on how to debug and figure out what the problem is?
