Good morning "former camp-land",
I wanted to shoot everyone a message about the Alumni Dinner last night. I will keep it brief and probably re-post this on facebook. About 20 Alumni came, spanning 4 decades and it was a blast! Jen (New Exec. Director), Jon Rempe (Senior Program Director) and Brian Siegel (current Summer Program Director) did a fantastic job of preparing the current staff and making everybody feel welcome.
We had about 30 minutes to mingle before dinner with the current staff, then we broke up into tables for dinner. (Lasagna was great, Ethel would have been proud. Even had ice cream sandwiches, very nice touch). We sat with current LT3s, counselors, ad staff, etc. and asked questions about what everyone was looking forward to, scared about, etc. All of the staff had great ideas after 4 days of staff training and learning about their skill assignments.
We then ventured to Council Bluff where each alumni was able to address the staff for a few minutes. One former Girls Unit Director who shall remain nameless teared up. Other than that there were some wonderful words of wisdom from Kristin Hasbrook, Jon Bolger, Cat Dobbert, Mike Whitcomb, Heather Ulsvik, Brett Youdevitz, etc. (sorry for spelling errors)
Greg Valde and John Lang spoke to the entire group at the end for a while and brought it all back to Children, which is what it's all about.
The Alumni felt very welcome and you all should too if anyone wants to stop by this summer, even if just to walk around and see all of the kids having fun. Just check in at the office and maybe even bring your swim suit. :)
Ultimately, Camp is in EXCELLENT hands with a great group of counselors and Ad Staff, but there is a lot of work to do by the Alumni to keep this Special Place alive and well for another 100 years. I hope to see more of you this summer and am looking forward to the Alumni Weekend in August. If you haven't signed up already, please do at the link below.
