For those interested...
Good morning, friends of the group,
I've been using the free (open source) Minigui since 2002, when it was necessary to abandon Clipper 5.2e, which was abandoned by the Computer Associations (CA). I've been using Minigui with Harbour ever since, and it's always served me perfectly. So much so that I didn't even bother migrating to other tools like Delphi, C, or Lazarus. I learned to use Minigui in its rawest form, but whenever possible, I contributed suggestions and examples—not many I recognize. When I started using Minigui, it was managed by Roberto Lopez and was still version 0.X. But one day, we in the Minigui community were surprised by the sudden news that Roberto Lopez was going to migrate Minigui to MingW and lock the source code. I was one of those who rebelled, and he then abandoned the groups and kept it. Heroically, Minigui was saved by Grigory Filatov and a phenomenal team that has all my respect, and Minigui continued in the "Unofficial" version and then It was renamed "Extend" and remained free and open source, but after a while they started asking for a financial donation via Paypal of $50.00 (fifty dollars). I didn't see anything wrong with it, as it wasn't mandatory and life went on. I live in Brazil, South America, and the dollar here is quite expensive in local currency, unfortunately making my donation quite restricted. But at the end of 2024, the team decided to separate Minigui into Standard and Pro, where to have access to the pro version it would be necessary to donate $100.00 (one hundred dollars), which is quite expensive in my local currency, reaching a third of the official minimum wage. In July 2025, we received a message from the team that they would no longer release the Standard version. Once again, I raised my voice in protest. After all, Minigui is open source and free. The Minigui 25.07.1 Standard version was released, but when compiling the programs, a message appears stating that it is an evaluation version. In other words, it implies that the Minigui is open source and free and is now commercial, but the Harbou project and the minigui project have always been free, this is Minigui's line, this is the reason for the community's existence or am I mistaken and naive? I would like a definitive answer from the Minigui team managed by Grigory Filatov, I repeat they have always done a great job, but I would like to know if from version 25.07 Minigui will be only Commercial, in which case there will be no sense in it being Open Source. I do not know the financial condition of the colleagues who are part of the community, but in my country $50.00 (fifty dollars) is a lot of financial volume, one hundred dollars as I mentioned is a third of the official minimum wage, if it is to persist commercially or maintain the evaluation version message, I will end my participation and will stay only with version 26.06 and I will try to migrate to another tool, such as Lazarus or PHP. I am not making threats here, after all I am just a member, if the other members decide to continue with the commercial version because they believe that a project that was born with the mission of being free and open source will undergo this change. I hope I made myself understood and didn't cause any misunderstandings. Let me be clear: I'm a big supporter of Minigui for Harbor here in my area.
Thank you.
