Hello,
I am downloading and installing using the latest MinGW-5.1.6.exe and I am having a problem with the download. The connection keeps timing out with the following message."Your connection appears to have dropped out.Reconnect your dial up or check your IE proxy settings."
I have created a sourceforge account and my username is dsandie. I have specified my default mirror as mesh solutions too .But even then I keep getting this error message.

Thanks and Regards,

Sandy

I suspect that is a problem with you network connection rather than the installer.

Also, MinGW-5.1.6 installs an old version of the toolchain + omits the debugger. Try http://sourceforge.net/projects/lunac/ but make sure to update the 'binutils' and 'make' directly from sourceforge.

Hi Sandy,

I was going to write a whole story about how that installer is pretty old and was meant to be replaced by mingw-get and that the problem could be somewhere in that, but a simple test proved me wrong - it just works for me, so probably it's just your connection.

However, do note that the installer is indeed pretty old ad will give you a gcc 3 install. To get a more recent version, you will need to do a manual install, search for automatic install scripts people made or go to another distribution of mingw (TDM and mingw64 both provide installers for recent versions of gcc).

As others have noted, the issue is your connection and also noted is
that the installer you've chosen is old. Please give
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/Automated%20MinGW%20Installer/mingw-get/mingw-get-0.1-mingw32-alpha-2-bin.zip/download
a try instead.

The downloaded file only contains mingw-get.exe which does not do anything. Should there be other files also to download?

Try mingw-get-0.1-mingw32-alpha-2-RELEASE-NOTES.txt, which explains
how to use mingw-get.

Where is the Release -Notes .txt file? It is not there in the zip file.

It's in the downloads system, two entries below the zip file.

Which isn't a fully helpful description as the OP was given a direct URL...

Sandeep, try:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/Automated%20MinGW%20Installer/mingw-get/mingw-get-0.1-mingw32-alpha-2-RELEASE-NOTES.txt/download

Cheers,
