I saw this film a long time back and thought it was a brave attempt since the director dealt with a taboo subject. I loved Deepak Parashar in it, he looked really dishy. Raj Babbar was great. Zeenat was good, too. I think it was a gripping drama. It's high time I watch this again.
I watched INSAF KA TARAZU at the Regal Cinema where it was premiered. Yes, I found it engrossing especially since at that time I was working in a court of law and could relate to most of the court scenes.
Undoubtedly, this is Zeenie Baby's best peformance. Your comment are so apt regarding Raj Babur. Indeed he appears despicable which goes to his credit of his performance.
But times have changed and revisions have been made to S.376 IPC, make the offence more punitive.
This is another of those films that was released when I was a kid, and which I couldn't watch because it had an A certification - and for some odd reason, I've never got around to seeing it. But it sounds very engrossing; must add this to my rental queue.

I forgot to mention sometimes in the Eighties I had watched LIPSTICK and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. I think Insaf Ka Tarazu was inspired by LIPSTICK and AAJ KI AAWAAZ (or is it KAL KI AWAAZ) was inspired by the latter.
