Interesting. Then why not consider making a move to a less dated software? Have you heard of the FREE 2D CAD program, and AutoCAD-clone, called Draftsight by Dassault Systemes. DS is the maker of Solidworks which is a very reputable program in its own right. Draftsight is enough like AutoCAD that the transition would not be that problematic. Dassault also offers a FREE Getting Started Guide and they have their own Draftsight forum for those seeking help with specify problems. The program will read drawings created in AutoCAD up to 2010 and write to the same DWG file format so nothing really changes in that regard. And best of all, it is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions that work well with Windows 7. I run a copy on both my home and work computers (64-bit) using Win7 Pro and Ultimate.
I believe you will definitely make some sort of effort to sort it all out and would be very much interested in reading about your experiences doing so. Would you update us from time to time? Makes me wonder though, why didn't you just go on craigslist or eBay and find an old computer just like the one you replaced? I know they are out there as I see people trying to sell them all the time. Why did you spend money on a new 64-bit computer when you obviously don't need one? Call me curious.
OK...all kidding aside the point I am trying to make is this. You are wedded to old technology due to the software you want to run and the equipment you are using it with. You should have just replaced the old computer with one that was similar. The switch would have been seamless. Instead, you, in trying to squeeze more out of AC2000, eschewed that course of action and instead decided to upgrade to newer technology (64-bit). You shot yourself in your own foot.
Anyone trying to use LT 97 on a 64-bit system is wasting their time when they can download, for free, a true 64-bit CAD program called Draftsight. The drawback is it is only 2D but then again so is LT. DS is available from Dassault Systemes.
I think if you are going to stick with your 32-bit version of AutoCAD 2008 then I'd recommend using a program like Longbow to get it to run under Win7 or Win8. Or, avoid all the problems by switching over to the 64-bit version of Draftsight, which is a 2D AutoCAD clone, that is FREE from Dassault Systemes.
Someone said that the LT 2008 program had both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions on the same disk? (Yes....or....No) I am a retired cabinet maker from Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. I can design and build anything thing I want, but I am not very computer savy. So I am very greatfull when an experienced AutoCad LT user is willing to take me to school on how to deal with my software and computer issues,THANKS. I was hopeing find users who have tried LT 8 with Win8. Was hopeing for a direct install of LT 8 to Win8, is this possible? Ron
Not sure if both came on one disk but I would assume so. Our DVD lists just the 64-bit version. Remember that 2008 was certified for use on systems running Vista or XP so you may have to run the program in compatibility mode.
DraftSight is a cross-platform solution, with a 32-bit RPM or Deb installer, labeled Beta. A shame really,given the fact you would probably want to explore the power and beauty of proper design on multi-core machineswith high-end graphics card on 64-bit systems. On my Ubuntu box, I managed to install the program by forcingthe architecture flag without any problems. Once you launch the program, you have 30 days to activate it usinga mail registration. There's no cost, though.

Draftsight 2018 sp3 cannot activate please help I have the problem about activate since Draftsight 2017 so I have to go back using Draftsight 2016 sp2 and hot fix and activation process is working fine every time I enter the information but the latest update build of windows 10 I cannot use Draftsight 2016 sp2 and hot fix anymore so I have to install latest Draftsight 2018 sp3 from -services/draftsight-cad-software/ after I open the program it ask me to migrate from old version and send me to register page and every time I enter information it blink and program is close it-self with no message that said that e-mail was send, I have try all 4 e-mail address that I have without success, I also try all the method mention here including add 3ds.com to trusted website, registry tweak, turn off firewall before activation it give me the same problem every time. my spec is:

Hello. I have a simillar issue. I install 2018 SP2 (or 1 it does not matter which) and can go through the activation process fine and start the software once. Once I have closed the software and I try to restart it the draftsight start-up windows pops-up and then the software seems to start but direclty shuts down. Once I restart it it will take me to the registration window once again. If i run the activation everything will work but the software will not start. If I clean the registry then it works once again en then bugs again. Any help welcome. BTW= Windows 10 Pro 64
I am having an issue where every time that I open draftsight it asks me to activate and I have entered a few different email address and I have never gotten an email back to activate it! I had our company IT guy install draftsight for as we also use solidworks, but I still get the activation screen! How do I get rid of the activation window?
It has come to the attention of the DraftSight team that, due to an expired certificate, Windows* 32 & 64-bit versions of DraftSight released from 2012 to 2017 will not launch and/or will stop running as of March 1, 2017. The DraftSight team have produced a critical hotfix to resolve this issue before that date.

draftsight's .deb package is purely 32bit. that's why in 64bit there is a trick so to speak. The dependencies that I put in the tutorial should theoretically already be installed on your system, that is why they are not included in the list of dependencies within the .deb package.
Excellent Contribution Brother, I was finally able to install it on my 64-bit Lap, the only thing is that when I installed it, I was asked to accept the license and conditions, it sent me once more to install it since I did it through the Ubuntu Software Center, At the end I just closed the request and voila I went to look on your computer and online and looked for it by the name of Draftsight and voila, it is working for me 100% -
