Minecraft 1.17 wants you to upgrade Java 8 to Java 16

Note that Mineshafter doesn't like Java 16 and will stop working. I've reached out to the author but he hasn't said anything yet

You could also go to Edit Profile > Game Version > 1.16.5 and it will work again (without Minecraft 1.17)

Or go to the discord server for a workaround that let's you play Minecraft 1.17 using Mineshafter
