I have a server on Aternos that I last used 7 months ago. At first when I tried to join, the error message was some thing like 'packet 0/26 was larger than I expected'

So then I tried downloading the server's backup to a new server and the error message changed to 'The received string length is longer than maximum allowed (25 > 16)'

I also tried reinstalling Mineshafter. Same result.

How can I fix this?

Your username is probably too long
Also Mineshafter may parse your email as a username so just change user basically

keep in mind your uuid is different so you will lose all your stuff

Is your aternos server cracked?

I would also like to say that I have no idea what the problem is either.

I need information to determine what is possibly wrong

'packet 0/26 was larger than I expected' just says that the client sent something wrong to the server

depending on what 'packet 0/26' is, it could be your username or whatever else there could be in the Minecraft protocol

Some of the characters in your username might be offending

Maybe your minecraft version are unmatched

Hey, It does say to me that, I think it happens only in Minecraft 1.16.3. When I switch to 1.16 it doesn't say that.
