Help, Mojang never gave me a username!

Hey people's, Ive been trying to make a Mineshafter account for a friend but I have encountered a problem. Mojang today seems to have changed the way they register accounts and instead of a username they use email addresses. I have been trying to connect an account using the email address given as the username but it just says 'Invalid Credentials'. After several attempts and I know im using the right password, it cant seem to work to connect and displays the error 'Invalid Credentials'. I really need Help on this, is my username wrong? or has Minecraft changed so that Mineshafter cant connect usernames?

Calm down and get minecraft singleplayer for free.
Or just find a pirate server.
