ConocoPhillips and Penn State University recently announced the launch of the 2011 ConocoPhillips Energy Prize. The Prize is designed to recognize new ideas and original, actionable solutions that can help improve the way the nation develops and uses energy.

In 2011, the program will award up to $300,000 in cash prizes and focus on three areas:

  • Developing new energy sources, including new ways to develop alternative energy.
  • Improving energy efficiency, including new methods to significantly reduce the amount of energy consumed in the United States.
  • Combating climate change, including solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Participants have until May 2, 2011, to submit their entries.  A panel of energy and environmental experts will then review the entries and the prize money will be awarded to the concepts that use the best combination of creativity, scalability, commercial viability, and sustainability.

Visit http://www.conocophillips.com/EN/tech/energyprize/Pages/index.aspx for more details on the program.
