Hello Minergy Folks,

Here is a technical talk that some of you might be interested in attending. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU FOLKS WOULD LIKE TO MEET WITH MIKE AS A GROUP FOR A FEW MINUTES AFTER HIS TALK SO THAT HE CAN ANSWER YOUR SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY OR OTHER ENERGY RELATED TOPICS.

Mike Wasielewski (Northwestern, Chemistry) will be visiting next Tuesday. He is the Director of the Argonne-Northwestern Solar Energy Research (ANSER) Center at Northwestern. In addition to his leadership role in solar energy, Mike is an experimentalist with a focus on charge/exciton transport in nanostructured assemblies.

Title: Molecules as Wires: Using Spin to Probe and Control Long Distance Charge Transport

We will discuss molecular electron donor-bridge-acceptor systems in which the relationship between spin dynamics and molecular structure provides insights into the structural dynamics responsible for long distance charge transport. We have been able to observe the cross-over between exponentially distance dependent tunneling and weakly distance dependent, wire-like charge hopping in molecular systems. The spin dynamics of photogenerated electron- hole pairs in these systems is used to probe these phenomena as observed by magnetic field effects on the dynamics and direct measurements of the electronic interactions using time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy.
