Schematics and Structures

Greetings,

I'm taking a MOOC about Minecraft, and we're in the middle of a learning module about using Minecraft to take a blueprint of a structure and make it appear as a building in Minecraft. I'm watching this video: http://youtu.be/geHkLZdnino and am trying to use Minecraft EDU to complete the steps. Here's the steps, according to the video:

1. Find an image of a house and used Spritecraft to make a schematic
2. Use only two colors (black and white wool) and save the schematic
3. Open MC Edit and import the schematic, flatten it, and then raise the blocks to create the building
4. Open Minecraft and make any changes to the schematic necessary to make it look like a building, or to serve as a 'template' for building

I've only gotten as far as Steps 1-2 then didn't know where to save the Schematic file in MC Edu, and how to use MC Edit to make adjustments.

Can anyone help?

So my questions are:

• Where do I save schematics in MC Edu?
• What program is better to "edit" schematics: MC Edit or World Edit? What's the difference?
• Once I create a schematic, how do I import it into a world and make changes to it?
• How do I copy/paste a schematic from an existing world vs how to create my own with Spritecraft? 

I've seen older posts on this topic, and couldn't seem to find it.

I don't see any replies. Only two posts from me and two from you that refer me to an answer that's not on this thread. I've tried refreshing the page and still don't see it. I wonder why I can't see them. Can you try again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Schematics go into a folder in the servertool folder:  minecraftedu\servertool\server\schematics

If the folder is not there, then you can just create it.  Then once you save the schematic to the folder, you can access the schematic after entering a world by typing:  //schem load <name of schematic> and then type:  //paste  to place it in the world relative to your current position.

MCEdit is quite a bit more involved that WorldEdit which is included in MinecraftEDU but there are tutorials online that will help you.

Hi

Created a schematics folder (minecraftedu\servertool\server\schematics) as it wasn´t there to begin with. 

Then I did as follows:

//wand - chose a structur

//copy

//schem save startbuilding

//schem load startbuilding

//paste

Everytime I get a confirming message. No problems. Everything is working fine.

BUT when I go to the schematics folder, I can´t see the files.

Of course I can try to remember the ones I´ve made, but .... Where do the files go and/or why aren´t the visible?

 

I am using 1.7.10 build 21 and is therefore using WorldEdit as a mod.
