The faculty who aren't gamers will take far longer than you expect for them to understand the first person aspect of the game. I had 30 minutes to show the game to a 6 person tech department. Half of them were totally lost the whole time; e.g, unable to jump and move forward at the same time, so they couldn't get over the smallest of hills. Be prepared for some to give up and just watch the others play.

Subject: {Minecraft Teachers} Using Minecraft with Adults?
Importance: Low

Dear Minecraft Teachers,

A colleague and I are doing a workshop soon, introducing Minecraft to the faculty at our all-girls middle school. We have about two hours to show our teachers the basics, and then plan to conduct a small-group building challenge for them. Our goals are to engage them in a learning experience, acquaint them with a cultural phenomena that has swept or middle-schoolers, and reduce the level of skepticism we sometimes encounter about the Minecraft initiatives we have launched at our school.

I am curious: are there others on the list who have taught Minecraft to a group of grown-ups? (Yes, they will have to be "taught," much more so than the students- though we plan to keep direct instruction to a minimum.) Any advice or tips would be welcome. And, if there is any interest in this topic on the list, I will post the findings and reactions once we have held our event.

Thanks in advance,

Tricia Kellison

Just reading this and wondering if you had your training yet and how it went. Sounds like fun. As an adult teacher learning minecraft for the first time, I had trouble walking... ;-)
And I like to think of my self as a somewhat experienced gamer.
What a fun in service for your teachers...
