Just as the subject says.  This is on a Windows 7 laptop, fresh Windows install.  I have Java 8 installed.  Basic Minecraft boots to menu just fine, but MinecraftEDU boots up, shows a black screen, and then changes to white and stays there.  For reference, same version on a Macbook Air is working perfectly.

Hi there, to properly support you we will need more information, but this is generally one of the following things.

Java version, there have been reported issues with Java 8, make sure you download the latest installer from the members area or update area in the launcher, a fix was implemented earlier this week to fix a Java 8 issue.

Graphics card drivers, ensure your drivers are up to date from the manufacturer of your graphics card, don't rely on windows update.

If neither of those suggestions fix your issue please attach the log files from /minecraftedu/debug to your reply and we can narrow the issue further.

Elfie.

Additional info: this problem occurs both with stable build 6 and developmental build 9.

Thanks for your response!

I have the latest Java 8, double checked.
Running 1.7.10 (neither build 6 nor 9 work)
Graphics driver is updated.

Debug provides a launcher debug, but the client debug file is empty (possibly because the game does not boot to menu?).  I've attached the launcher debug.

Confusing part is that regular Minecraft works just fine.

Thanks for your help!

Elfie means the latest version of the MinecraftEdu installation files, not Java.

This error is all through that log file

GL Error implies graphics problems in my opinion, but I will check with the devs when they come online later. I noticed that perhaps you are running a resource pack, I thought I saw some mention of quite high resolution graphics in that log file, is this true, if so, try disabling shaders or resource packs for now until we can get it up and running.

I mentioned in my above post that I am running MinecraftEDU 1.7.10 and that neither the stable build (6) nor the dev build (9) work.

I checked the mods category and no mods are running for MinecraftEDU.  I am running a freshly installed and updated MinecraftEDU 1.7.10 (build 9), with nothing installed except what the launcher updater installs.  If shaders are causing the issue, why is regular Minecraft fine?

I tested the build out on my classroom desktop, and both vanilla Minecraft and Minecraft EDU boot up just fine.  Evidently, the problem is with the laptop, but it's odd that regular Minecraft would boot just fine but MinecraftEDU would freeze up.

I also double checked that the graphics drivers for the laptop are the latest available from the manufacturer.

I am still pretty sure it is a graphics issue, perhaps a 'forge' one (which is included with MinecraftEdu) I will ask the devs again and see if they can shed any light on a possible fix.

Reply from dev was "Old video card or video card drivers." so I am thinking that the computer is not capable of running 1.7.10 with Forge, since you say Vanilla runs, must be a Forge related issue. Suggest you roll back to 1.6.4 and try again maybe if Forge gets updated within Edu, or when 1.8 comes out.

Are you 100% sure there are no shaders or other mod related files in /minecraftedu/minecraft/mods/1.7.10 ??

The updater does not delete those files, it leaves them there, so just make 100% sure that directory is empty, otherwise my suggestion of 1.6.4 is, I think, the only option.

Video makes sense. Newer computer worked and I had the problem with 1.7.10 on Windows 7 64bit and 32bit with with Java 7.67 on older computers. 1.6.4 works fine for me as does regular Minecraft.

Was hoping this would be the same problem on my laptop. But from what I see in the debug log I seem to be haveing sound issues. File attached.

No, there is no error in that log file. Can you please provide more information. OS and Java version are the best start. Also can you give all the log files from the debug folder.

OK, running Win 7, 32-bit, Laptop is 4 years old. Java Ver 7 update 71, using edu build 9.

With the exception of my laptop all the MACair books run on the server with minor hitches, server cpu is not heavy enough. Here are both files.
Thank you.

No errors in those files. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/minecraft-teachers/java$2072/minecraft-teachers/cPcI54ebvmA/A-A7tc7Nuw4J this thread talks about Java 7 Update 72 being a major issue, perhaps 71 has the same issues. I know 67 works, so perhaps try downgrading to that and having a go at that.

Was it a clean install of MinecraftEdu or an update?

It was an upgrade so I will flush and to a clean install. update 71 is not an issue have a desktop that we decided to try just to prove the server and it functions great. Java seems to be the all around issue. Just swapped machines due to Java virtual machine not loading.

Thanks for the help.

I checked /minecraftedu/minecraft/mods/1.7.10 and that folder is completely empty.

1.7.10 Build 10 (newest) displays the same error, 1286: invalid framebuffer operation

I'll roll back to 1.6.4 and use that until we get word of a fix.

These crashes are because of a non-accelerated pixel format. Which in simple terms is either your graphics card are out of date (try downloading from the manufacturer not windows) or your graphics card is just not good enough.

Thank you for your quick response. I truly appreciate it. I checked the video drivers (Microsoft) and they were up to date but maybe I can find newer ones in the vendor site.

Hey Kevin,

Microsoft isn't really the best place to get video drivers. With that said, if the video card is too old it may not matter much at all.

Also, make sure you have a 64 bit version of Java installed.

Those are typically the two main issues with this type of problem.
