Worldedit doesn't appear to be able to copy block data when copying blocks. For example chests are copied empty and their orientation is sometimes lost and signs do not copy with the labels in tact, they are copied emptied. Is there a way to enable this? This would be my most requested feature if not, how can I go about requesting this?

I am trying to build a series of maps to teach basic minecraft skills with a build area for each student, with 30 students and about 10 signs per area, that's 300 signs I need to write per world and I'm onto my 3rd world now.

Thanks,
Brad.

Hi Brad, the newer versions of MinecraftEdu do not come with worldedit built it, but a newer version of worldedit is available to download from the online mods area which does enable the copying of chest information.

Unfortunately due to the way that MinecraftEdu manages signs, it is actually stored externally to Minecraft, not 'in' the block data so there is no easy way to bulk copy signs. There is the option of copying one sign at a time, and I find that quite useful, copy once, paste to all the relevant signs and then repeat. Although depending on how you are going about what you are doing this may not be an easy fix for you.

If you really, and I mean really, want to copy, you might find it easier to note down the coordinates of each sign and what should be on it, and manually copy the data into the signlocations_en.ini with the correct coordinates, this would not be super easy, but may make it a bit quicker if you can get the information down pat.

The version of WorldEdit that Elfie brings up does in fact handle chests and their contents just fine. The sign part is definitely an issue at times and you won't find a mod that can do it. If you have too many to handle with copy/paste, then you probably just have too many. In my own maps, I've tried to handle this by using fewer signs. Many players tend not to read them in the first place, even if you insist. I look for ways to make things more intuitively obvious, and if I have a lot of verbal information to give, I'll use another means. One option is putting information in a signed book/quill and storing that in a chest that you then copy with WorldEdit. Most players are more driven to check chests than they are to even read a sign. Hope that helps.

Sign Data is stored in a folder named MCEdu in your World's Save folder. The filename is signLocations_en.ini .
You can edit the coordinates of the sign, and change whether it is in the ground or on a wall (indicated by the "_b=false" suffix).
Even knowing this, it can be tricky if you have a ton of entries. What I like to do is to copy all the entries into an Excel file, and tell it to sort by value. Then, they are all in order, and I can copy them back to the text file for editing the coordinates. I've done this several times with no problems. Not exactly the simplest way to go about it, but not too hard.
Moving the sign in MC Edit doesn't erase the data in the text file, so this method should work fine once you are done moving the sign. You of course just need to keep track of the old AND new coordinates and replace accordingly.

This works for Teleport Stations, too, using the teleportlocations_en.ini file.

Just to clarify, the _b=false component of the sign is to tell MCEdu whether it is a big sign or not, not whether it is on the ground or the wall.
