It looks like I don't need to participate in discussing the desired features that will certainly be missing in the upcoming MS education edition. MS doesn't offer an education license to non-school education facilities like my MakerSpace. So I'll be switching to the regular Java server until they kill that product. I hope that minetest will be a good long-term solution. Maybe we can put together an education team for it :-)

As far as I am aware the Education Edition is linked to O365 accounts, I am unsure what requirements there are or the costs associated with these, however it might not be all doom and gloom. Perhaps you could drop by the Microsoft UserVoice https://minecraft.uservoice.com/forums/345414-minecraft-education-edition and let them know, they are open to community feedback and are acting upon as much as they are able.

Thanks for the suggestions and hope. I did post feedback, after having to create an Xbox profile page of all things. I already had a token live.com address that I use for MS but Xbox? That says a lot.

I've never known MS to just "do the right thing" and certainly not to be flexible with license terms. I get it, they have a lot of lawyers to protect their business assists, products and services. If they bend the rules just a bit, others will attack like an opening in the Wall of China.

If I can just get my last order of edu license keys for Minecraft, I can be hypocritical and continue using Minecraft until they kill the Java server or add a mod API to the crippled pe version.

Hello George, while I don't have an answer for you on the non-profit front, we've heard this feedback many times and our team is working on ways to figure out how to offer the Education Edition software to institutions involved in education but not approved educational institutions. As Elfie said, putting these ideas or up-voting existing ones in the UserVoice is best, we are listening to that forum and will be participating more in the near future, just as soon as we get the beta off the ground!

It is still no clear at all if you wants your non-profit organization to use Minecraft Education Edition.

I didn't find any clue on what to do.

Right now we are using the Java edition, using Forge and Spigot as platforms to teach Java programming to both kids and adults as we develop mods and plugins to help customize a world in which we can model our local community. Our second area of focus will be on using scripting languages, like JavaScript and Python, with mods to add additional customization. I've dropped our use of Minecraft EDU as version 1.7 lags pretty far behind 1.10. I don't anticipate looking at Minecraft EE until it has a published dev kit and/or API similar to Forge and Spigot.

So no, we won't be using Minecraft EE this Fall.

Oh, I'm sorry, my english was not good enough.
I was asking if someone knew if it was possible to use MC as a non profit.
I founded an organization some years back to show kids some code basics and a bit of electronics.
I was looking for a solution to use MC

At the end, I'll handle my own server but it will be a bit harder.

Thanks for your answer anyway.

Sorry, I wasn't sure of your question. Here is the FAQ on licensing for the Education Edition, from their website http://education.minecraft.net/faq/. As you can see it defines teachers, schools, libraries and home school groups and it does not define "other non-profit groups". I'm waiting to hear if they will allow other organized groups, e.g. church groups, scouts, community centers or makerspaces to participate. Until then, I'm moving forward with the Java 1.10 server, modified with Forge and Spigot.

In addition, Minecraft: Education Edition will require an Office 365 Education account to log in.

This may change by the time they release the software.
