Hey folks!

This is a request thread.

I recently made some new .schematics using WorldEdit so I can paste them into my student worlds.  However, whenever I copy any container (chest, hopper, furnace), the contents are emptied.

Is it possible to update whatever version of WorldEdit MCEDU is using so those contents can be saved in .schematics?

Thanks!

To be blunt, no. Unfortunately that capability has never been built into any version of WorldEdit. Essentially, WE copies the block data by no other information. So it wont copy entities, sign text, furnace/hopper contents or anything else like that. At least as far as I know. Your question implies you've possibly seen a version of WorldEdit that can do this. If so, I'd love to hear more.

A few years ago, probably around 2, I know there was some version of WorldEdit that would copy chest contents.  I used it to transfer my chests when the server owners would restart the server with a new world.  That way, I could preserve my work/builds.  At some point, I noticed WE stopped doing that.  I'm not sure what version they were using, but again, this was around a couple years ago.

When I checked around, I did find a wiki (http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldEdit) that stated the following:

"Note: If you can't copy chests (they get emptied), then your version of WorldEdit is either incomplete (work in progress) or it is the wrong version (if you are using Bukkit)."

If you go to the wiki link, you'll find that in a pink box just under the header "Installation".

It's no biggie; just would be a HUGE convenience if that were something to get working again.

Thanks for the prompt response!

I know there is a discussion going on with the devs currently, but I did respond on twitter with an 'easier' way for now, especially for chests.

Interesting. From the table, it does make sense then that chests wouldn't copy. MCEdu doesn't use Bukkit and the version listed for Minecraft Forge is a "work in progress" which I guess means it's incomplete. So for us Edu folks, I guess it's a matter of waiting for WE for Forge being completed to the extent that WE for Bukkit as already been.
And I agree Mr. Joice that that would be a huge convenience.
