Playing Valheim Together: Fleetwood Interest and Timing

Hello friends,

This email is going out to a lot of people. Please take a moment and complete the survey, even if you don't plan to play this game. For example, it shows a list of the 26 games we have played together over the last 22 years.

Valheim is an open-world survival crafting coop game inspired by Viking culture. Its the best rated (96%), most played game (#3 globally) of all time on Steam. A few of us have tested it, and it looks super. We will definitely play it together at some point.

But when? It was released a month ago, continues to receive important patches, and has a list of content planned for recent updates (details in the survey).

This survey will help us answer that question. Yes, we want to play Valheim, together, but when should we play? Take 2 minutes and help us understand what you want.

Thanks to the 18 people who completed the survey. 16 people want to play Valheim together. Here are the full results, and a few observations.

No rush: Less than 20% of people want to play in March. Most don't care, can play anytime (41%) and next most prefer April or May (35%). Right now I interpret that as "Lets play around May 1" which I think includes what 53% of people want (plus the "no preference" crew). See below for what I propose.

Evenings: 71% prefer to play at this time (US East), the clear majority.

Not tied to content: Most people (65%) are not waiting for specific content to drop. The rest had scattered preferences.

Inconclusive: The group had no clear preference on Group size or Day of week:

Old School: 50% (9 or more) of respondents played these games together, in order of most played: City of Heroes, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, Wurm Unlimited, Star Wars Galaxies, Civilization, Elder Scrolls Online.

THE PLAN I will start a private Valheim server for the Fleetwood gaming group around 1 May. Today servers are 10 players max, concurrent, which should be fine for 16 people. It is pretty rare to all be online at the same time. :-)

If there is a specific date for new content in May, we may wait a few weeks for that to launch. If they launch new content before 1 May, we will wait for a few patches. Any changes will get discussed on Discord. I will start a #valheim-chat channel in mid-April.

The Fleetwood Valheim server will start up on Thursday April 22. That's a little over one week from now.
