Itseems that the grid layouts and HA may have separately evolved over time, but with some of the samples here, I was able to get things working today after wasting a bunch of time failing to create a configuration from scratch.

Hi @andyblac, I know this is off-topic but your setup looks amazing! Would you mind sharing some details like the theme and what kind of cards you are using (especially those button cards for the rooms and that amazing weather forecast)? Thank you so much!

Hello Andyblac,

Happy new year to you Sir, I found this forum by chance and I am quite impressed about your dashboard.

I will like to have dashboard similar to yours, for example, the bedroom cards.

In ArcMap we would have a layout setup that we would simply have to switch to after completing the work in map view. With Pro, the layout view locks the map extent once it is created. Since we do parcel editing, we create before and after views of what we worked on to be sent to other departments. Once one parcel is done, we move on to the next. It seems like in Pro the map frame will have to be adjusted separately from the map view every time a new area is worked and a map is needed. In ArcMap it was simple; whatever was showing in map view where the edits were done was the same area displayed in the layout view to print the map.

In Pro you can't sync map and layout views like in ArcMap. This is because you can have many maps and layouts in Pro, and each map or layout can have multiple open views. In ArcMap because there was one map view and one layout view it was easy to keep them in sync, in Pro it would be far more complicated because there are so many. Instead, we recommend activating the map frame and making adjustments in the layout, or using bookmarks.

Not very elegant but you can make sure your focused parcel is selected prior to switching to layout and then click the "zoom to selection" option on the Map frame Format tab. It would be nice to chose to link the layout map frame to the map view though. I too will miss this and it is one more reason for some of my workflows to remain in ArcMap.

This is an old post and I'm not sure if you ever found a solution, but I've noticed this issue as well. Having all of the map frames and layouts in one area is nice, but it makes things more complex with regards to synching the map frame extent within the layout. I believe there's a solution though (at version 3.1.3). If you select the map frame within the layout, then right click, there's an option to "Zoom to Last Active Map". This seems to synch the layout with the map frame that is set within the layout properties. In my opinion, this menu option should be renamed to something that's not so confusing. Maybe there's more to it that I'm not aware of. However, if it were named something like "Synch with Map Frame", it might make more sense. *Correction, the "Zoom to Last Active Map" does exactly that. It takes you to the extent of the last map frame that was active. Even f it was a completely different map frame that the one that is defined in the layout properties. Which I cannot figure out why anyone would ever want to do that.*

How do I delete an interface LAYOUT (i.e., when I click on a linked record on a page and it opens another page in the drawer with a customized LAYOUT).

I have a whole bunch of excess layouts that I was experimenting with and it has made a mess of my ability to apply the right layout setting because the dropdown has tonnes of bad layout options that, and I like to delete them so that the don't get inadvertently applied across my interface.

SCREENSHOT:

@Mike_Buck I think that would be for deleting a page in an interface, not a layout.

I'm referring to the layouts that you assign to lookup items in a page, which open another drawer to see their details

I don't see any way to do this, but as a work-around, I rename the old record detail layouts as "delete1" "delete2", etc... so I know not to use them. Some day, I'll actually be able to delete them... someday.

Really struggling with this as well. I have one nested layout (I go into one and then deeper into another) and I initially chose a layout that is not the one I want. But there is no way to change to the one I do want once I go deeper into these nested relationships. I wrote to support as well so hopefully they will see the need for managing these layouts.

I cannot select any elements (North Arrow, Scale, Text boxes, etc.) by clicking on them. I can only highlight them using the content pane (and thank you Richard for pointing out the lock/unlock feature), but even then I am restricted in my actions.

Hi Tim! Sorry to hear that you're not able to select elements in your Layout View. There are a couple ways to select elements, such as the north arrow, scale bar and dynamic text, - On the Layout core tab, in the Elements group, there is a Select tool. You can use this Select tool to select layout elements. Another way is in the Contents Pane on the left side of the app, you'll see map elements there too. Click on one of them and you'll be able to move it to another position on the layout or right-click and access it's properties. You can learn more here.

Thanks for the quick reply. In fact, I have been trying to use the Select tool for days now, but it simply DOES NOT WORK anymore. When I use the Select by Rectangle and select a large area, NONE of the elements I fully include in the selected area end up being selected. It's just mind boggling, and I cannot understand why this isn't working.

Interesting...so when I see strange behavior like this, I always recommend a soft reset of ArcGIS Pro. You can see how to do this in the steps listed here. Once the reset is complete does the strange behavior persist?

This worked for me but it should be stated that the selection tool in the layout does not give you the same options for changing the selection options like in a map view. To solve this one must go back into back into the map frame and change the selection type there. Poor UX!

What Wim suggests makes sense if we make text in layouts first, and then we realize that we also need text in model space. Unfortunately, it never happens. In the real world, we make the text in model space first, we realize it was a mistake, we make layouts, and we struggle with text size in the layouts.

The low hanging fruit is creating a multi-page PDF export of all your layout pages with layer support (PDF supports layers and other illustrator capabilities). The advantage of adding full illustrator editability to PDFs is that you can also open those multi-page PDFs in Indesign, or PowerPoint (Adobe Acrobat exports PDFs to PowerPoint and works really well). So you can create entire presentations/documents in Rhino with live geometry and export/publish to a 2D documentation package when you are done.

Views

Material assignments

Layer visibility

Object visibility

Curve Shutlining on/off (important for design variations)

Named position

Active clipping planes/Section views

Active foreground/background images

Grasshopper configuration states

We could also have options for make2D at export time. So you can work with live 3D models creating all your views, fully editable, nothing becomes obsolete; then flatten&vectorize them at the last minute in one shot.

If you like the idea tell @bobmcneel. @RhinoFabStudio and I have been nagging him for a few years on this, we have him almost convinced. It might take a few more years or a bunch of people voting this up to give it priority.

I think before a global export can be created, a global save/recall of all possible states of a model into what makes a unique view needs to be implemented. I know the need and some conceptual ideas have been clearly identified and demonstrated to some folks at McNeel. I also think this has broad user appeal, for pretty much all industries if you need to either present or document your work.

I mean, you can tweak line weights and clipping planes and layer states all you like, but an export of a wireframe view is simply not the same thing as a usable drawing. Even if it was in an editable format, it could take hours of work to clean up each drawing. And McNeel obviously know this, because the layout documentation is conspicuously based on flat 2D geometry only.

Hi Guys,

Dropbox changed the layout of the folders, which are showing pictures ON the folders now.

It's driving me crazy because is slows everything down.

is there a button where I can switch this off?

Hi @Anne V, I work on the product team at Dropbox. Thanks for sharing this feedback! I would love to understand how we can make this a better experience. Can you share more information on how the change has been slowing you down? For example, is it harder to identify your folders due to no longer having icons, is the page loading slower than before, or do you see a spinning loading icon on the folder itself?

this is apparently one of those "forever bugs" that we are just going to have to deal with, I guess. It's been an issue for as long as we've been able to place 3d views onto layouts. I hear all the responses deflecting this to an OS problem, but I can recreate it randomly on several computers. So far, the only solution I have found is to restart the computer, try again, then restart again, then try again, then duplicate or save as and open that file and try again, then throw my computer through the window out of pure rage and kick the wall until my toe hurts and I forget about my frustrations for a hot second... then go buy a new computer and repeat until it works again.

I think the randomly self-altering layout book layer combo is another bug all together. The OP is talking about the drawing's contents showing blank. If you "open source view", the 3d looks right, but won't show on the layout within the drawing frame.
