"Why me?" Who do we credit or blame the good or bad things that happen to us?

Pure chance is usually the first thing we think of when we have good or bad luck. We just happened to be in the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time. But many times we should credit or blame ourselves for our own cleverness or stupidity. We can then regard our good or bad luck as rewards or punishments for our own right or wrong choices.

There are situations however when we feel that we need to look elsewhere for the way destiny leads us to fortunes and misfortunes. In these situations, the only other reasons for "why me?" are other humans who manipulate us. These are usually our family, friends, bosses, colleagues or leaders who want to help or hurt us.

When none of the fore mentioned reasons for "why me?" give a satisfactory answer, then we can look to the souls of dead people who like the living  have the desire to manipulate people they like or dislike. Failing that, we can credit or blame god and karma for the good or bad experiences we are given. And then we can be thankful that failing everything else, we will always be ensured that we learn what we need and deserve to learn.

Life is not for sissies- living is a verb. I have trouble thinking
god(s) are wringing their hands over the fate of anyone given the
violent path of human history.

Very pertinent RP. I was run out on seven consecutive occasions
without facing a ball in cricket and then was dropped first ball in
the next innings - going on to make loads of runs without getting out
in the next five. Luck is good when things go well as I hope things
are with you. I have enough problems thinking why we are clinging to
this rock without needing to spend much time working out what the
Lords of Cosmic Jest are doing to me.

Loving parents have to find the right balance of when to intervene and help their children and when to let them make mistakes so as to learn from them. Loving spirits looking down at us have the same difficult choices.

Whenever my parents tried arguing along that line I found that made them look ridiculous. I  tried arguing along the more serious line with my son and he found I was looking ridiculous. That's my truth today. Tomorrow I will tell you a different one - until there are no more unreplied deep thoughts left.

Some of the disconnect between parent and child is a "mixed message",
generational shifts in culture and peer pressure.

Now, about my tooth. :-) I am on the way to another gold crown after a
temp a couple of days ago. The good news- minus the price tag- is that
my dentist thinks I will be around long enough to get some mileage out
of this molar as it has to take over the grinding function of the
molar that was pulled last fall.

Back to topic- we may learn many lessons via our children versus our
parents. I had three sons and one daughter and the daughter opened a
whole new view of my life for me. She thought me ridiculous and
powerful, I suppose. We have a very good relationship after the bumpy
years of high school and college. But I was a "single" mother most of
the time and I do wonder what difference a father might have made as
my own father had a lasting impact even though he died when I was
eight. At that point, I should have hired a lawyer! :-) Anyway, my
neighbors are well adjusted couples and stressed with their teens so
it just may be a given.

The other side of RP's question might be stated 'there but for the
grace of god go I'. Going a bit far to hire a lawyer as a husband/
father rigs! Or have I got that wrong? My dad was great but still
did me a fair bit of harm with his sulks and emotional inabilities.
I'm not sure I did any better. My partner's daughters were abused by
their father and living with them was tough.
I'm at the dentist with my back teeth next week. Snap! - or at least
I hope I'll still be able to!

I think I associate 'why me' with bullying rather than deep ontology.

Yes- you misunderstood. O- the personal allusions are often
impossible. My piggy bank wouldn't cover a retainer so I continued
with my Guardian Angel. So far, so good...Anyway, my father was a
positive loving parent and I will never know if I would have thought
of him differently as I grew up. I suppose it's that feet of clay/
fallen idol bit but maybe not.

Irony rigs, I was using irony on you - LOL. Have they miniturised
Guardian Angels? Where do the mouth-sized ones hang their red berets?

Good little Catholic girls had Guardian Angels with wings, halos,
dressed in white gowns- they were probably exiled to France by Henry
VIII. Your angels guard the city streets from gangs and thugs.
Anyplace they hang their hat is home. Or did you mean the Roman
Catholic cardinals? The retainer was re a lawyer- not teeth. Have I
ruined your humor yet? :-)//A tall good looking man got a lot of
attention in the grocery line Saturday- he was from London- probably
all the pbs romances makes women swoon when they hear a British
accent- though I also thought he might be an Aussie due to his rugged
masculinity...

Never seen an angel with wings..  Or do you have wings they are just another soul like yours,,  yuoor guardian angle is probably your best friend in the realm of souls..

Angels/winged deities have been around since 4000 B.C. They are
symbols to us of pure spiritual existence. One could take this to a
discussion of concrete/abstract concepts as even the sciences deal in
the abstract, don't they? At any rate it was part of my Catholic
education which was rather complex. We had an active theology and were
even represented as lambs approaching the creche- that's me- bringing
up the rear! I think my particular angel is patient. :-)

Angels with wings is imagination..  to see a angel; soul; being what would appear to be floating in air the first thing they would do is attach wings to it so they could explain it..  there is one story where Lot's wife was turned to salt  that the 'Angels' did not have wings..
Rigsy I know what the catholic education is all about as I went through it also,, mine shifted because they say something,, but they forgot to tell me..  it is not uncommon for especially nuns to create a story for something they can not explain or understand..  your soul (angel body) Rigsy is what controls and guides your body..  does your body have wings?? does your soul have wings?
