A species of ant now carries on without producing males. Males are
pretty rare amongst social insects, but all others at least use them
for fertilisation. This function has now gone in this species - an
ant that nurtures fungus.

Not really my friend. The ant, Mycocepurus smithii, which reproduces
asexually is native to Central and South America and even though the
queens don't use sperm to fertilize their eggs, the ramifications are
extinction. Basically without males to diversify the genetic equation
the ants will eventually just produce mutant offspring rendering the
species dead in the water. Men are here to stay as the dominant,
alpha dog. Any catalyst that sets off a global calamity will set
women back 500 years if not more (opening up a hornets nest here?).
Besides, women love us!!

I used to do the cooking when Sue and I moved in together. These
days, I am more or less barred from the kitchen, other than to fix
broken appliances. Once she can afford a plumber I'll be redundant, I
tell you! The big mistake was letting her into the secret of my flour
improver and source of fresh yeast. Wonderful as her bread is, my
power is gone! I'm considering a steam-oven in the shed, but she'd
soon track down that new source of economic power. The Y chromosome
has been getting smaller for eons. Time to get to the Iron John
meetings before it's too late!

Well now! You know you must reveal your secret flour improver and
especially your source of fresh yeast. If you don't want to give it
out to the world there is always the email route. Consider it a must
have for my bread recipes.
I don't think my wife will fair too well without me around and would
have a difficult time finding a suitable replacement. I do a lot of
different things, not your average person. I'm just bummed out on
getting too old to do some of what I used to do; aging sucks.
