Hi All,
Alasdair's new book is out and available in the shop and he will be
teaching a couple of workshops next month. Be sure to sign up early.
His workshops tend to fill up.
Best,
Lucy
Double-Knitting Level 1: Introduction to Double-Knitting
Saturday, November 12, 1-4pm
Cost: $45
Objective: To learn double-knitting and reversible colorwork
techniques.
Description: Double-knitting is a unique method of making a fabric
with no "wrong" side and a built-in reversible colorwork pattern.
Significantly different from the standard intarsia and Fair Isle
colorwork that are so well known, double-knitting is a labor-intensive
but wholly worthwhile technique to have in your repertoire. In this
workshop, you'll learn my 2-color cast-on for double-knitting, get
comfortable with the techniques involved, then move into colorwork. At
the end of the workshop, you should have a motif swatch and be
confident that you can tackle a larger standard double-knitting
pattern.
Requirements: 2 contrasting colors of plain yarn in the DK to worsted
weight range and a pair of straight or circular needles. This is an
advanced technique, but you need only be comfortable with the long-
tail cast-on and basic knit and purl; previous experience with
colorwork is also helpful but not necessary.
Double-Knitting Level 2: Extreme Double-Knitting
Sunday, November 13, 1-5pm
Cost: $60
Objective: A technique-intensive workshop to take your existing double-
knitting knowledge and push it to the limits.
Description: So far, you might have made a double-knit washcloth or a
motif swatch in a previous class. Perhaps you've done a scarf or one
of many double-knit hat patterns. At this point you’re pretty
comfortable with double-knitting – but maybe you’re wondering whether
you’ve reached the limits of this technique. I assure you: you have
not.
This workshop is a whirlwind tour of some of the most useful and
interesting “extreme” double-knitting techniques that I have
developed. In a single swatch, you’ll learn 3-color double-knitting,
double-knit cables, two-pattern double-knitting, decorative increases
and decreases, and a little bit of openwork. You’ll also learn a
really clean double-knit edge and a really interesting decorative bind-
off.
Requirements: 3 contrasting colors of plain wool, wool-blend or
quality acrylic yarn in the DK to fingering-weight range and a pair of
straight or circular needles in the proper size for the yarn. Previous
double-knitting experience required -- you should either have taken
Alasdair’s Level 1 workshop or have done some other double-knitting
colorwork on your own or in another workshop. If you’re not already
familiar with my cast-on, please learn it before the workshop. You can
